I vote we rename the lounge, since apparently calling someone gullible is now a personal attack.

Calling someone gullible is a personal attack. I mean, what are you attacking if not them? Any negative statement along the lines of "You are ____" is likely to be a personal attack.

there are few more names that would be more fitting too; but those would be cause for banning.

Have we ascertained that the "gullible" comment was the actual reason for the infraction yet?

It may just be a statement of fact, Chuckit.

By the way, why is everyone now writing "Poll:" in front of Polls. Don't people realize the Poll tag is automatic? Noobs.

It may be, but most of the time it's a personal attack whether or not it's also a statement of fact. It's a good guideline to go by.
In a nutshell: If your comment is about a person (i.e., personal), and it is harsh or negative in nature (i.e., an attack), you are at least very close to making a personal attack.

You know...
I get to see all of reported post notifications when somebody reports one of Ca$h's posts. So I also get to read the reason given for reporting it.
You guys try to nail down Ca$h for the most insignificant crap. Stuff you wouldn't bat an eye for if anybody else did it.
Crying wolf isn't going to do anybody any good. Give it up.

I like the sound of that!
P.S. The chicken reminds me of Cash, and the happy face guy reminds me of one of the MacNN mods, represented by the smiley face.
P.P.S. I'm not sure who the net reminds me of... Maybe society?

I think the net either symbolizes the coming of the industrial revolution, or the advent of the free market economy.
Can't decide which...

Thanks for exposing the truth lateralus. I appreciate it. That said, I'm not going to turn into a cream puff 'doesn't offend anybody' politically correct moron just because people report me. I feel that I have NOT been calling people names, or attacking them, and ranting about how dumb people are. I've gotten better. If some losers feel like they must keep reporting me just to make up for their penile inadequacy problems, so be it.

Rob,
Why is it important to you that we give you another chance and realize that you have gotten better? If it is important to you that people stop reporting you, maybe a long period of time where you are nice and polite to people will do the trick?
MacNN doesn't owe you anything. You mistreat people, people will react - you are a big boy, you should know this. Do you expect some sort of shielded protection? What makes you think that this board (or any other) owes you this? This is not a public service, you have no constitutional right to post here. There are a seemingly infinite number of other boards on the internet, shop around...

Rob, I say a lot of sarcastic things to people here when I feel they have said something stupid. This is my way of challenging them to refine their position, or to simply stop saying dumb things. If I'm saying something dumb, it is fair to expect that people challenge me, and they do. I don't feel that we should dumb down our conversations in here as to be nice to people who say dumb things, I think they should just stop saying dumb things and arise to where the bar is set.
However, I try very hard not to actually say something insulting about that person - only what they have said. With the exception of special cases like Railroader and Kevin, I don't think I've made a lot of enemies here... If I'm wrong, I would still bet that I've done better than you, simply because I rarely attack somebody's character when they say something dumb. We do share the same dislike of hearing stupid things, so we have something in common.
The internet might be a good way for you to practice conjuring up a little restraint.

PS: MacNN doesn't owe you anything either, but you do owe me something: You've said the same crap 50,000 times to me. I've told you where to put it. It's annoying. You've been reported for trolling. Good luck.

Lateralus pretty much nails it. Some people, it seems, initially wanted to provoke Rob by pushing his buttons and then complaining to us (via report abuse or pm) how bad he is. Rob doesn't have to `prove' anything to any of you members. He has received a few infractions for his behavior as did some other members who were baiting him.

I think this is a good thing, but the somewhat... ah, inconsistent way things have been carried out in the past WRT him not being banned until acting-up (and then getting immediately hatcheted for "ban-evasion") has confused the issue as to whether he is officially a member in good standing.
This may have been cleared up somewhere else, but I'll be honest that the fact he was officially welcomed back into the fold was news to me.

Aren't you doing the same thing you're complaining about with this thread?
Anyway, I vote the Lounge be called Captain Wilbur's Palace of Potato Chips & Earthly Delights. Or if that's too long, just Asshat for short. (Is that word making a comeback? I love that word.)
