I'm being perfectly serious. He's a ban Nazi, and it's hurting the community.

This will not change, or make things better in any way Tiresias. I suggest an alternative approach. Just accept things and ignore the silliness.

I don't know anything about this. I'm one of the quieter members here... but are you sugessting Kevin, that if there is a bad mod, that we just accept it? If Oreo is indeed abusing his ban hammer, it's time he got a taste of it himself. I myself came to this forum because of the moderation. I couldn't say 2 words on mac-forums.com without pissing off the ass goblin that runs it, or his little clique of meat popsicles. I came here because as long as I keep it in line (and it's a fair bit of roadway we've got to move on here on macnn) I'm left alone by the mods. Now if Oreo needs to go.. let the people vote. Why tell him to be quiet and just accept bad mods?

Must be some leftover thought of... what was that that helped found our country? Oh yea..... rebellion against bad leaders.

Just my 2 cents.

I am saying that those that moderate this forum have final say. I am saying that in the 8 years I have been here I've only seen one moderator admit that they made a moderating mistake. I am saying those that own this forum have put said people in charge. And they don't care what is really going on. As long as the hits keep coming. I am saying making threads like this will only get Tiresias more disliked by those that might abuse their privileges.

No one makes anyone post here. While I can't say I agree to every decision made here, no one makes me post here. I don't pay to post here. They aren't required to offer me a service to which satisfies my moral code.

Everyone makes mistakes. No matter what position in life you are. Does it bother me that when a mod makes a poor decision that he doesn't apologize, or attempt to make it better? Sure. But there is nothing anyone can really do about it. Either deal, or leave.

There are good and bad in any "profession" There will be those that will never admit to mistake. Will always blame the other person. This is just how life is. You cannot change these people. If you show them once, and they don't see. They never will. So continuing doing so just upsets them more.

And in the end, it just creates more hostilities. So if you get banned for some inane wrong reason, just ignore it. Take it, and move on. If you done nothing wrong, and you know it. There should be no problem. And others around you that have common sense will see what is going on, and also take that into consideration.

This very thing above is happening right now as we speak with a handful of people.

I hold no grudges to those that do this. Even though they SHOULD own up and admit to wrong doing, we are only human.

The thing is, most people will have more respect for those that can and do admit when they have said something wrong, or made a wrong decision. It makes the right ones you make even more respectable.

I just checked our ban DB, and Oreo doesn't have anyone temp-banned at present. Like other Mods, he only hands out permabans to spammers. Regular-member permabans get handled by Admins.

Tiresias, I'm not seeing whatever incident you have in mind. If you believe a Mod has acted improperly, contact the Mod in question and argue the matter politely. If that doesn't work and you still think the actions were improper, contact an Admin and describe the matter clearly. Try again to make your case as to why the actions were improper.

Must be thinking of me. I banned a Cash nick a couple months ago, that was on a rampage about the new iMacs. Turned out to be a new member who hadn't read the posting guidelines. He's since been reinstated.

IIRC, Oreo was the one who banned Tiresias a while ago; and considering Kevin had sent him a PM regarding his apparent recent compulsory holiday (which I hadn’t even noticed, truth be told), I’m assuming Oreo might have been the hand swinging the hammer there, as well.

Oreo bans regulars as well. Not that I am on the "Oreo shouldn't be a mod" club. But he recently had a temp ban on there.

And you might get another ban for it.

Come on, lets all put all the chips off all over our shoulders, get the Crisco® out and shake hands.

There is no need for hostility or threats.

I say the thread just gets locked. I am surprised it's gone this long.

Same here.

Even the best mods make mistakes. I am convinced that no one would make a perfect mod. And some should never be mods. Especially those mods who, while giving me an infraction, insult me and are far ruder than I am in the action I go the infraction for.

It may not be grammatically correct, but you have to admit that last line was quite poetic!

No one is going to ban me again. The regulars here would never tolerate it. It's a little embarrassing to admit, but they practically worship me.

Unless they have gotten the "treatment" they don't care. And as long as the don't get the treatment, they don't care who does. As long as it's not them.

Please note that MacNN appeals to a wide international audience. Every day, we get many registrations from Asian, European, and Nigerian IPs. I know, because I've been banning them by the dozens. After noting down the better deals, of course.

Tiresias,

You start this thread asking for OC to be disallowed or whatever as a mod. At least that is your intention. Anyways, supposedly for handing out bans like Halloween Candy which isn't the case. So, you are bringing up a complaint against a mod that didn't ban you. Besides, the last time you got banned was for being an asshat and not too long after that ban was listed, you had to be warned to watch yourself. So, who is the problem here?

I see Tiresias you're picking up your whining where you left off.

As before your ban, your railing against macnn and its mods. If you don't like it here, or how is moderated leave. Nobody is forcing you to be a member.

For the record I was surprised that the mods (who had shown great restraint) had not banned you sooner then the one on October.

If I were to choose who should be voted off the island, you or Lat (or Oreo) You'd get my vote. You don't even know which mod to rail against.

So this is what happens when you leave MacNN over dinner …

@Tiresias
Not everybody likes Oreos, that's a fact of life. And even if we like them, we know that every once in a while, you have a bad Oreo in your box. This wasn't one of your times. I haven't had anything to do with your last ban or the ban before.

… going back to real life for desert …

I wish that were so. It doesn't seem like it here.

What people in these forums that aren't part of the status quo need to come to grips with is, no one is unbiased. People do take grudges out on others, and life isn't fair.

One should always however, take responsibilities for ones actions.

Be it mod or user. Without the one, there is no other.
