PerformanceOptimizer

This has been happening when viewing the photo critique thread in Firefox. Window closes, alert box opens telling me that my PC is infected/needs repair etc. Hitting cancel brings up the above page.

Please stop these morons. Thanks.

This is ridiculous. These nasty pop-ups have been hitting me now for 2 days in Safari. I am going to stop coming here until they fix it as it keeps messing things up.

I haven't gotten hit by one either, even mashing reload on the photo critique thread.

I just got 2 in a row visiting the lounge just now. It actually takes you away from MacNN and loads 3 popups screens, resizes your window and when you close it it does it again.

This is extremely annoying that it happens on MacNN as this doesn't' happen to me anywhere else on the net and 2 days later nobody seems to be doing much about it.

I haven't noticed it at all, but then again I'm using ad blockers on all of my browsers.

Old version, use Adblock Plus or SafariBlock if you use Safari.

But these are only temporary solutions. MacNN needs to fix this problem quick.

Correction: Our ADVERTISERS have to correct this quick. We have this in our sights, but we sell that ad space and it's up to the people who fill that space to not be jerks. Like they are with this crap. Consider this issue "in work." Hopefully that will mean that we'll have the stuff corrected shortly.

If anyone gets this particular annoyance again, please provide what link you clicked on and the time of day (give it to us in GMT/London time if possible, with reference to your local time zone otherwise), so we can figure out which particular ad placer is placing the annoying and out-of-context ad.

Seriously, I think those ads might not be rotated in the US.

Only Mastrap and SWG reported those, but nobody with a confirmed US location

I've been hit with the ad a few times, too. Bloody annoying.

Another MacNNer in Canada getting zapped. This has happened on just about every visit to MacNN over the past several days.

Haven't bothered to log times until today. 2:06 p.m. Pacific Time. Main page of forums. Hadn't even clicked on anything yet.

Just happened to me when I tried to enter the Lounge. I didn't click any ads or other links.

I'm also in Canada.

And another hijack. 3:06 p.m. Pacific Time. Had just clicked on the link to the lounge.

Any updates on finding the offending advertiser?

Dr., where are you physically? In Canada too? This may actually be a serious issue, and we need to know if Canadian users are getting this, but not others.

According to his location, he is in "A crappy place in Canada".

I'd think that qualifies as Canada

Yes, I got that much, but not where in Canada. I'd also like all the other Canadians to tell us where they are, because it might be regional rather than national. I just wasn't as lucid as I should have been when I replied to Dr Wahnsinn's post.

Thanks GH. I'm in Maple Ridge, B.C. ISP is Shaw.

I could also add that that last one I reported was severe enough that I had to quit Firefox to get out of the loop before I could continue browsing MacNN.

Hope this helps.
