Lovely, another broken feature of vB search.
In the mean time, try this in Google:
dr who site:forums.macnn.com

The Search Button at 'NN should directly link to Google.

The search index is set to 4-character minimum. This means you can search up all the info you ever wanted on 4-letter words. Oh, on longer ones too.
"Dr Who" qualifies as two words, both below the index limit, hence no results. You can confirm this by searching for:
"mac" - very common word on this forum. Zip results.
"mack" - rather uncommon word around here. Lots of results.

Fine, but that doesn't make it any less annoying.

can't we lower the search index to 2 characters? or 3?
there's tons of things that are 3 characters that are handy
SSH, FTP, ATA ...

When I have this issue I try and think around the issue. For finding all Doctor Who threads I would look for dalek or TARDIS as they are terms that would only be used in a Who thread.
Do agree that three letters would be nice.

That would explode the search database.
As it stands, there are several words longer than two or three letters which aren't indexed in order to keep the size of the database manageable.
