Some tidying has been completed, in order to make old forum content visible, and to improve Search relevance.
Move deactivated forums into Archives, so they become visible again:
• Older Systems & Clones (closed 2003)
• Classic Macs and Mac OS (closed 2005)
• Servers (closed 2005)
• Macs in the Media (closed 2001)
Merge deactivated forums into relevant current forums:
• Microsoft Office (closed 2004) -> Applications
• Linux on Mac (closed 2002) -> Alt OS
• UNIX (closed 2007) -> Alt OS
• Developer -> Developer Center
• Web Developer -> Developer Center
Merge older content into relevant current forums:
• Power Mac Archives -> Mac Pro & Power Mac
• PowerBook Archives -> Mac Notebooks
• Mac OS X Archives -> Mac OS X
• MacNN Lounge Archives -> MacNN Lounge
• Software Archives -> Applications
The 5 forums that had been in the Archives had been placed there under UBB. This was done primarily to reduce server load, and secondarily to prevent very old bumps.
Today, vB stores threads in a database, and server load does not increase with the number of threads in a forum, so the first reason is gone. I've added a hack against zombie bumps, so the second reason is also moot.
Moving the older content back into their relevant forums makes Search work better. No need to search for a topic in two places.

Nice.
How does that hack against Zombie bumps work ?
Will it not allow posting in old threads in general ?
What's the cut-off ? 6 months ?

The zombie check is done when a reply is submitted. If the trap is triggered, you get an error message and the post doesn't go through.
The board enforces the trap at 1 year, 2x the official limit, so as to allow flexibility. If there is good reason to bump a still older thread, ask the local moderator to do it. Once they bump it, anyone can post replies again.
There are a few exceptions. Sticky threads can be bumped regardless of age. Marketplace clips at six months and may clip earlier in the future - they have an internal rule not to bump threads after 30 days.
Feedback, Team, Mac Mod, Dev, GUI and Delicious Monster clip at 2 years. Each of those forums might have long-term projects or issues that get returned to over longer time periods.
