On the contrary, I'd be in favor of removing the "public poll" feature altogether.

Having polls not be anonymous defeats the whole purpose of polls.

Not really. The point of a poll isn't necessarily to get anonymous data.

Also, I voted yes.

I'm not sure that's fair as a blanket statement. There have been several polls here along the lines of "What's your [religion/sexual orientation/field of work/whatever]" where the identity of the people answering the poll seems to be half the point.

In this case, people should just post in the thread if they want to make their answer to the poll public.

Think about the Pepsi/Coke thread - while you could read through 4 pages of posts, having a poll makes it much easier to get an overall idea of the results.

I agree with Demonhood. Making a poll public should be an active choice. I can see WAY too many ways for "public by default" to cause turmoil and angst around here.

I'll generally not vote in a public poll as I prefer the anonymous flavors. Just my personal preference. I see no reason other then curiosity to have it a public poll, i.e., who voted for/against it.

well, i was mostly just making a dirty joke. maybe i should have used italics!
but i actually do believe that it should be private and a choice should be made to make it public. people click those polls without reading the "this poll is public and you will be mocked for your choices" text.

You claim you're from the land of the easily amused, but then you pass up a golden opportunity for easy amusement. You sicken me.

Why yes, and if you open up those cans, sometimes you'll find deals on pharmaceuticals inside!
