1. The look and feel. The way the forums is designed, the colors used, the way in which quotes and replies are organized. It is all very attractive and intuitive.
2. The technical expertise of the more senior members. It is good that this at times serves as a Mac fanboy hangout, but I think the most important asset of the forums is the high level of forums expertise.
3. Minimal/avoidable offensive material. This seems to be partly due to the forums being administered well. Most members know that they should **** any cuss words, and if not, the profanity is quickly removed.

1. The Lounge: A healthy mix of random conversation, tech discussion, and media discussion.
2. The much maligned Gaming Forum. I can't take sole credit, but I feel I've helped carve out a small niche which snagged some posters (new or old) into becoming Gaming Forum regulars, thus thwarting some Admin and his attempted foracide to this very day.
3. Because I have spare time at work most days.
(the forums do look nice, however)

1. Nice community.
2. Not over-run by people asking how to put an 8800GT in their antique and why their notebook doesn't work after being in the dishwasher .
3. Non cluttered layout - esp. avatars and sigs.

1. Ultra-helpful Mac gurus who have, at times, actually sent me files in order to fix my machines (back in the OS8 OS9 days)
2. Generally laid-back attitude of most of the long time posters.
3. Strict control over the visual appeal of this site. No huge sig images and ads scattered all about the place. I've been at some forums where just finding where the hell the information lies is a real chore.

1. People who know what they're talking about on a huge variety of subjects.
2. People who know very little but ask questions about very interesting subjects.
3. People who are willing to discuss both of the above and more without getting all upset or all stupid.
The look and feel are nice, but I'd hang out in a dingy, smoky pub that had these people in it. I wouldn't feel good afterward, but I'd do it.

Precisely what he said (except the parts about OS8/OS9, since I wasn’t around then).

1. I used to lurk here as a guest a very, very long time ago
2. I just made the move to Apple again after around 8 years of PC life
3. I keep coming back because all members (even a newbie like me) as a whole do have respect for each other
Thanks MNN.

But in all seriousness.
1. The people. It's fun, I like the community (minus a few bad apples, but how would I know what "good" is unless I knew "bad," right?)
2. Running gags. They're my favorite.
3. Decent moderation. I've never had a problem with them. They do their job and they do it well.

1) Even if I'm not talking about Macs, I want to be talking to someone that likes them.
2) Not too big, not too small.
3) Glenn, the 'hood and r50 are a triumvirate of truly awesome mods/admins in my book. I know that sounds kiss-up, but there are just too many examples of them going the extra mile, and being like, really nice too, for that to go unrecognized.
As always, all three, sorely unappreciated.

1) A couple of members who know a whole lot about the guts of OS X, Macs and computer tech in general. Interesting discussions with those people.
2) Very good moderation. It wasn't always as good as this. Glenn and his team have been doing a really great job.
3) Clean layout, good navigation, virtually spam-free.

I gotta add one on. The signature standards are the best! I can't stand forums that allow huge signatures. An Accord forum that I lurk in has such big signatures that you can only fit five posts per page. Crazy!

1) In 2000 Usenet was all but dead so I needed a new place to discuss all things Apple. I had been a regular reader of MacNN news for quite some time, so it was natural for me to join the forums.
2) The number of high quality, highly knowledgeable Mac people, many of whom share a lot in common with me in a number of respects. Plus, the entertaining personalities.
3) The high signal to noise ratio.

1.) My homepage is the 'NN Forums and I cannot figure out how to change it, so here I am.
2.) I'm not a PC user.
3.) There is no Step #3.
3.5) Better layout than SpyMac.
