Decade might be an exaggeration (what are you trying to flatter your way into getting, eh?), but definitely best post in the thread.

I was going to say year, but then I realized that wouldn't be a compliment considering the date.

At any rate, lay off me Oisín!

I really don't see why it would be such a big deal if there was a minimum post count for posting rights in the Lounge. I'm pretty sure everyone that posts there already has 100 posts, although I'd be more in favor of a lower number, as others have suggested.

But more importantly than this, it really doesn't matter a whole lot. Micro-managing this forum just requires waaayy too much effort, and it's almost always wasted and misdirected energy. Just treat this place like your play place, and treat your toys with respect. This is only a forum, after all, where none of this really matters a whole lot.

Here's the thing - it's not that we don't all enjoy a little Internet arguing, it's where the arguing is coming from.

These are new members who know nothing about the community here, and are trying to immediately jump into an established group of people, rather than integrating in like normal people who take the time to figure out the atmosphere before posting completely inane BS that nobody wants to read.

The content of their posts are mindless and annoying, but the bottom line is that these are new users. It's like when your family members joke around and insult each other, but get upset when some stranger comes up and throws the same insults. These girls are not remotely part of the group yet...they could at least make an effort to be not annoying, you know?

We're not asking for micro-managing - this isn't one person doing something a little annoying...it's a small tidal wave of obnoxious girls who care about nothing else but defending a stupid movie.

Now, ThinkInsane has a point - these little girls are going to go away pretty quickly for the most part. If they stay this annoying, though, it might be worth it to take some action here. I don't know...I think the mods are trying to stay neutral, which is why they haven't done much - yet. We'll see.

At some point we're going to need to call in the Swiss to negotiate.

I do like Swiss cheese....

Who cares if these girls are annoying, they can't be any more annoying than me. Just ignore their threads about Twilight, Dora the Explorer, or whatever else they create. It is sort of micro managing to try to conjure up ways to make them go away just because you have seniority here and don't speak like a MySpacer.

Ouch! Not a phrase from my ‘Thing I Like to Hear’ category.

(I wasn’t aware I was laying on you. Or, er, something. Insert witty riposte here.)

This thread covers complaints about new Twilight fan members, with limited l33t language skills, lol. It's not for complaining about mystery-handle old members, inclined to starting fights and earning infractions. 12 posts lost to the world now - such a tragedy. The forums will never be the same.

Please keep your complaints focused.

Then that forum should go to hell and die!

Why has no one brought up the first guideline of RFC 1855, aka 'netiquette', section 3? Which basically states; Lurk before you post.

In the end, the best thing to do is just do your best to ignore them. Either that or ignore them. They'll most likely go away once they see something else shiny and new. Though if they make broader nuisances of themselves, I'd like to see the moderators run a little interference.

They're not going to go away if this forum entertains them. Having two daughters of my own, I know how easily kids are entertained by annoying others, especially adults. If *I* were one of these new members, *this* thread would entertain me greatly, and I would proceed to try and see how much I could annoy the members of this board while staying within the posting rules.

Bottom-line, these new members are like every other member of the forum to me. If what they say is interesting to me, I'll respond to it. If what they say is meaningless to me, I'll ignore it.

Since my oh-so-witty reply to someone whose user name I don’t recall was among those 12 (as well as that someone’s original post), does that mean that this someone was in fact an old-timer? I thought I was being all clever, lecturing the wee ones with humour and paedagogic skill.

But when new members join and post with such poor spelling, grammar, formatting, and content something should be done.
This bothers me the most. The Myspace-type idiocy needs to stop.

Edit: I don't normally do this, but I placed them on Ignore. Problem solved.

My understanding was that anyone who likes Twilight is under 13. So any new members posting in that thread, who like the film, should be banned.

Are IP bans possible here?

And how would that work exactly? Every time the DSL modem gets restarted it gets a new IP address.

Depends on the ISP. Banning entire IP sectors is possible, too, but very rarely (if ever) used, since you then run the risk of accidentally banning other users in the same area as well.

Like Oisin said, it doesn't always work, it depends on the ISP.

IP bans are really only a small barrier.
