I just encountered this problem while trying to quick-edit one of my posts. If a post is made, and later quick-edited so that there no actual post, quick edit just sits there and doesn't tell you what's wrong.
For example - I was trying to post a quote, but accidentally used a [/url] at the end of the quote instead of a [/quote]. Upon posting, none of the post was a quote. I quick-edited, corrected the tag, then hit "submit." The circle spun for a couple seconds, then stopped. No error message or anything. It was only when I went Advanced that it told me what was wrong.

I'm not following your description. What error condition applied?
I've often Quick Replied, then immediately edited typos.
Immediate Edit: looks good here

Sorry, the problem was that my edit made the post "unacceptable." The post was fine at first, but after I changed the tags, the entire post was a single quote, so it didn't fit the "three characters" rule. Try it - make a single post with ONLY this text:
Code:
[quote]Hello world[/url]
After posting, quick-edit and change the "url" tag to a "quote" tag, making the entire post a single quote without any other text.

That would make sense, yeah.
When a post that is too short (less than three characters) is submitted through the “Post Quick Reply” button, the “Submit” button, or the advanced “Edit” button (once you click “Go advanced”), it triggers a new page to load, telling you that it’s too short.
Apparently, when the quick-reply function was added, someone neglected to add this trigger to the “Save” button in the quick-edit box. I’m guessing it tries to go ahead with the AJAX insert, but can’t, so it just does nothing?

I know that if you try and quick-reply within 30 seconds of posting somewhere else, an AJAX message tells you how long you have to wait. Surely something like that could be implemented for this.

Of course it could—I think it was just accidentally left out as part of the submit code for the “Save” button in the quick-edit box.
