Am I doing something wrong? I've added a signature from the User CP, but it's not showing up on the forum!
Any basic gotchas a signature newb should know about?

I still can't see anything. It shows up only under your profile. By the way, as it is there, it's too big. Signatures can be a maximum of 200 pixels wide by 50 pixels tall and only one line of text. If no picture is used, signatures can have up to four lines of text.
