I know this suggestion has been made before, but still. The CGI on this board is obviously overwhelmed, especially during peak hours. I have no idea what hardware you guys are running or the OS (BSD or LINUX?) but how is this for an idea:
1.Why don't you post a poll for users to request their favorite features
2.Why don't you start a sourceforge project either in JSP .Servlets or PHP that members here can work on if they're inclined.
3.We work out a spec and a dev plan together and then let people start workng on it
4.IT will take time but I for one would like the opportunity to work with JSP

I favour JSP-Servlets and Postgresql because they scale better and provide distributed computing which with another box or so would be fine.

Any takers?

The software isn't the problem, the hardware is.
It would be a real pain to switch over to new, not very tested software.

But that is just my opinion.

Way back when, we tried using PHP, but apparently it created even more problems.

The solution to all of this is the [mirage of a] new server. It's hard to hack UBB when you can't afford to waste time loading pages after pages.

Yes, unfortunately the software itself is not really the problem, it's more that the software is running on a machine that is WAY under the minimum requirements (think OS X Public Beta on a Quadra, natch), so even different forum software would likely have a problem.

We just need a new frickin' server! It's currently about 1/3 the minimum specs...

Unfortunately, the hundreds of emails we have sent have fallen on deaf ears

(Same for AI, btw -- I email those people fairly often)
