I need help and don't know how to find it.
I like MacNN's new features and I'm glad that it's almost like it used to be even though it seems a little slower than before. On a 56k dial up everything is slow, so I'm not complaining, BUT!! the search function stinks.
I have three fax and/or modem problems and I'm trying to search for help, but I don't know where to look.
It won't let me search all forums anymore and if I want to search by member,
I have to know their number. I don't even know mine, how would I know someone else's?

Will someone tell me which forum to look in for help with my fax/modem problems.

topics about faxing/modems should be in peripherals, unless it's a modem problem that is strictly a networking question (in which case it should be in networking) or if it's a faxing quesion which is strictly a non-driver-related software question (in which case it should be in 3rd party software) or if it's about a built-in fax-modem in some computer, it might be in that machine's specific hardware forum. i hope that helps a little...
we're currently working a on getting a new search engine implemented to replace the "insufficient" built-in ubb search engine (as I mentioned in another thread here about the search engine very recently).

as for member numbers, that is a new "feature" of ubb 6 that everything is based on member numbers. trust me, it adds more annoyance to being an admin than to being a member . initially on installation, member numbers were visible under user names in posts. we implemented hacks to remove this, and return the display do what we were all familiar with. now, to see a members' number, look at that member's profile.

You can still search all forums on MacNN's homepage, but it takes looooong.

And how to figure out a members number by only knowing the name without having an actual posting and the profile link is a thing I didn't figure out yet.

If you're so inclined, you can just look at the HTML source for the page. It has all the member numbers there. It's not removed, just commented out so it doesn't display.
