Would it be possible to enable title editing just in the Marketplace? It would be useful, I think, for people who edit their FS threads frequently.

In general a user has a few minutes from the original post in which he/she can edit the title of a new thread. After that, users must contact a mod to edit the title-which is VERY important to the smooth and relatively low drama level operation of most forums (especially the PWL).
I know a lot of forums let users edit titles forever, and sometimes that works well, others not so much. Your suggestion about the Marketplace has merit though; if someone's selling their Wonder Widget, after it sells that thread title may be misleading. Being able to change a "For Sale" to "Sold" would be Very Beneficial to the browsing user. Hmmmm.... I just don't know if it's possible to change this for a single forum, and it would be extremely important of course for only the thread's original poster to be able to edit the title as well...

There is a window during which the OP can still edit the thread title. Currently, it's 20 minutes. There is no control to specify this on a per-forum basis.
It could doubtless be done via code hacking - but letting people nuke their Market threads reduces the research options available. Later sales can be harmed when prospective buyers try to research earlier sales by the same person, and come up with empty edited posts. Empty edited titles would make it worse.

Not that it would be a trivial hack, but if a user could only mark a thread as "Sold," that could prevent that research issue. I'm not suggesting you try it-not at all! But if it were possible, that would be the "best" solution.
Otherwise, the user should just post that the item/items sold as the last post in the thread, and a mod (like he/she didn't have enough to do already! ) can either close the thread or edit the title and then close it.
Perhaps a mechanism for letting "some" mod know that a Marketplace thread is no longer active would be a good idea... Knowing that an item offered for sale is no longer available IS a very good thing for the users.

especially since it would assist in stopping zombie marketplace threads from getting bumped.
What about having a Marketplace mod who is responsible for simply locking threads that are no longer necessary, and editing the title as sold? I don't think the marketplace is active enough for this to be a terribly laborious responsibility...

The no-zombie-bump hack currently makes Market threads unbumpable after six months. It could be shortened up - that hack is forum-specific.
