hey folks,

forget the extra +$100 for a silly iMac flat panel -- what's up with the apple.com support discussion boards, and why haven't macnn, macintouch and macfixit jumped on this and covered this debacle? why isn't anyone talking about this?!?!?!

over last weekend, through march 18, the apple support server for discussions was allegedly down for maintenance and upgrade. since march 18, there was a message posted saying the following on the discussion site --

Over the past couple of weeks we have been upgrading some of the hardware and software that runs Apple Discussions. This past weekend we upraded the server softare that runs Apple Discussions. Doing so will enable to us to improve Apple Discussions even more. We will let you know of new features as they come on line.

There may be some slight interruptions as we finish the move to the new server software. We would ask your patience during this time.

The Sysops"

... but there has been zero, zilch, nada, nichts, null, the empty set, BIG GOOSE EGG since then from apple. and now it's thursday, march 21st with no update from them, and no way to contact them to ask what gives! and on all the apple discussion boards at their support site, there are headlines in big red letters saying you can read, but not post, due to server maintenance, and then a link to the above march 18 message.

this really bites. i've need to post a question that is not found in any apple tech spec, tech info or on their knowledgebase since last friday and have not been able to. this is a purchasing decision where i'm at, and i can't get the simple info necessary before we make the purchase.

i'm really surprised you folks haven't jumped on this yet. it's really poor service on apple's part, and you should be trumpeting it to readers of your sites, looking for what gives with apple, and offering alternatives.

sincerely,

i see macfixit and macnn this morn, friday, 2002.03.22, picked up this story i sent them... finally. the boards have actually been down at apple since last friday night (2002.03.15). the "18th" is just when they posted the message that the hoped they'd be up soon.

by the way, this morning if you go to http://discussions.info.apple.com, you get just the following message --

"Apple Discussions is temporarily unavailable due to System Maintenance.
We expect to have everything normal very soon."

... with an OK button at the right below that. that's it, nothing else, no date or time of expected service, period. even if you *don't* hit the OK button, your browser is then automatically scripted to take you back to the main http://www.apple.com/support page, no matter what.

as this hallmark of service rolls on...
