but I want to post one of those comments that you can read if you click on the link "# comments" just below every macnn.com news.
How can I do that??

just click the [x Comments/Post a comment] button below a news item on the main page, and then if you are logged in to the forums, towards the bottom of the next page it should say "You are logged-in as [user] and may post comments." Then you write your comment in the text box and press the post comments button.

We don't enable comments on all items.

That may change at some point.

I seem to be having the same problem on MacNN articles that others are making comments against. So far the MacNN administrator's help/comments have been as useful as Microsoft support! What gives?
Sun support: You need to see your administrator.
Me: I am the administrator.
Sun: Oh...

I registered today to post to the news stories - specifically the one about SR1 for Office for Mac OS X which most definitely is open for comments by others, but no matter what I do it won't recognise that I"m logged in and so I can't post.

The HTML for the page shows that the Title and Message boxes on the "form" are DISABLED - I can't click into them to type any text., and it continaully tells me just above that that I need to Register and Log In - well I've done that as you can see because I'm posting here right now!!!!

Please help figure this out.

Thanks

Roger

now, you can continue to complain about the delay in getting this new comment system in place, but it won't make it happen any sooner.

Furthermore, the fact that this only affects some users and not all users, leads me to believe that this might be an issue with your user database, rather than a fault in the general board system. You might choose to abandon your current forum implementation and move to a pre-built package like InfoPop or SnowBall.

[EDIT] I just noticed that you do, in fact, use InfoPop, so you might chose to enlist their technical support to fix this problem. [/EDIT]

Lastly, chastising users for complaining that a significant feature of your site is broken, and has been for some time, with little or no feedback from the admins about the problem, its prognosis or the solution, will get us nowhere fast.

Demonhood, I was aware that you were not referring to me, earlier, but I was just commenting that even providing specifics in email 'feedback' didn't even elicit an automated, much less a human response on the subject. Even a simple 'we know about the problem and are working on it' would have eased some of the frustration.

As for the feedback from the admins -- I actually collected all of the posts on this problem in the Why Can't I Post Comments on MacNN Stories? topic. There have been five topics on this board, active within the last 100 days. None of the topics seem to have a definitve answer from anyone in authority, beyond Nick's "it will be fixed soon." I do appreciate, however that you are working on a solution, even if it is taking an unusually long time to fix. Thanks.
