I'm just curious... why do you guys use UBB? From a user standpoint, its feature set is very limited (e.g. can't see who's online, mark posts as read, see people's recent posts, etc.) From an admin stand point, it's rather cumbersome, relatively hard to customize, and expensive. Mainly, it's relatively slow.
I can't help but notice how slow the forums have been going lately, so I'm wondering if there's any reason why you're not using faster, more scaleable forums like ikonboard? If you wanted to, in about 30 minutes you could have ikonboard looking identical in every way to your forums now, the only difference being the superior underpinnings.

I mean sure you could have the logos and colors, but it's really the aesthetically pleasing look of UBB that tides me over. I used Ikonboard once for my site.. but really didn't like they way it looked.. so I used UBB and now it looks great. Also, modifying board templates is so much confusing for me with Ikonboard than in UBB. I prefer modifying the files and actually seeing easy to comprehend code rather than their stuff. Also, I prefer UBB's control panel rather than Ikonboard's. Also.. recent posts.. who's online.. that's all here.

That woud take about 3 minutes, and then maybe 27 minutes of customizing the default UBB skin back to MacNN's specific set up.
