How come the SETI team is allowed to post to every forum with the same message and then allowed to keep bumping that message to the top?
If anyone else tried to do that you'd lock it up in a heartbeat. Why the exception?

the threads should either be combined into a single thread in a forum or, if SETI is really that important, an announcement should be made at the top of a page. we don't need more than one thread about people trying to find aliens with their computers.

Where have they been bumping? In the past, they've been allowed to post a thread once every few months to a maximum of four forums for recruiting purposes, but bumping is way over the line.

I'll look into it.

the member drive is over....

posted by Reader50:

Ok people, I chatted a bit with Scott. Our recruiting drives normally run 3-5 days, anything beyond that starts ticking people off. Especially people who do not like DC projects. We are not in this to make enemies, and should have gotten as many sympathetic people as possible by now.
Accordingly, the active part of our drive on MacNN boards is done. Please stop bumping the threads. If new recruits ask questions, it's fine to answer them. But try to send them over here to the Team Forum.

Maybe we could go after the AI boards, or MacFixit instead. I checked out MacFixit, they do not have any teams in any projects.

Thanks to all who have given time to this, especially Shaktai.
just give us a day or two and the bumping will stop any any people with problems will be directed to the team forum...

sorry

Look here

You can see that its bumped, then someone asks if this has anythingn to to with moding.

They also posted in the powermac forum and the iMac forum, I have not looked at the others but I think they posted on quite a few other forums too!!

Yes, the bumping will not happen again, and their future posts will be limited to around 4 forums.

I apologize about the thread in that forum. If I had known about it before today, I would have gotten a Mod to close it. We were granted full permission by the admins and mods to have a recruitment drive in 4 forums. This included Powermac, iMac, OS X General, and the Lounge. Mac Modification was not one of them. Bockie became confused and posted in more than those 4 I just mentioned. I thought this only occurred in Mac Games, which was quickly taken care of, but it appears I was wrong.

Also, the threads were not "repeatedly bumped". Some, who did not really understand the drive, started by only replying with "Bump". That, too, did not last very long, as I am sure you would notice if you looked at the other threads where the majority of the team kept an eye on.

If you are still angry about this, search the Lounge for the SETI Recruitment Drive thread. There were some very good points made there directed toward other forum-goers like you who did not agree with the SETI recruitment drive.

Again, I apologize. If another drive happens in the future, I will make sure the rules are stated more clearly from the beginning so that we do not have similar mishaps.
