I know this might tie up the servers a little, but wouldn't it be kind of cool if you could turn on "Auto-refresh" after a cirten amount of time, and after that amount of time it would just set the timer again and refresh after that again.
You could turn it on so it only refreshes while you are looking at the entire forum, or just when you are looking at topics(or maybe both), all of these could be controled by a choosen time when you want to refresh.
Maybe to make it so it doesn't use up the server power that much by having it turned off by default(so the new users that don't know anything don't have it on).
But maybe this all can't happen, maybe it is something you need in your browser...

I don't like auto-refresh. When I'm reading or browsing, having the page I'm looking at suddenly up-and-reload isn't nice. Configuring for bookmark-checking from one's browser would be better.
