The following was taken just moments ago from your site. While I can UNDERSTAND the Moderator's frustration, I found his comment to this student with a mere 29 post RUDE, and insulting. Searches SHOULD be encouraged, but they can take painfully long even on a broadband connection hitting all the forums. Unlike the Moderator "the kid doesn't live here!" With today's AAPL market plunge can we afford to alienate Mac users with this degree of rudeness?

I am in the market for a new laptop, and would like to get a powerbook. The only thing I worry about is, I purchase one for $1999 (educational purchase) and the next week Apple release a souped up model and drops the prices on the older models. When would be the earliest that they could release the new powerbooks. I find it interesting that the educational deal is only till October 13, so I thought maybe shortly after that. I currently have an iBook, but I am selling that to get the powerbook, the main selling point for me was the bigger screen and better connectivity. Even the new iBooks don't have a 14.1" screen. I also like the idea of having a DVD player. I am an avid movie buff and my DVD collection is up to 89 movies. Can someone tell me how well this works. I am guessing minimum ram requirements would be like 128MB. I heard some rumors from people that certain DVD's won't play on macs.

I'm absolutely, positively sick of this question! Please search the forums. There are posts in plain view that will help you.

What does it matter how many posts someone has? I only have 5 posts at MacFixit. Does that mean I'm a newbie? Does that mean I don't know anything about computers??
No, it really doesn't.
Please don't use that as an argument.
What I believe seanyepez was saying, is that even in the last 20 days or so (which is what I have my cookie set to show me), there are such comments/queries. I have seen numerous.
I obviously surf MacNN a fair bit, and it frustrates me no end seeing the SAME POSTS OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
The work the moderators do here is voluntary... so please don't take it out on them.
They are continually moving, locking and editing posts appropriately, and that is just another problem (ppl posting such 'asked' questions). Not only that, it is simply a matter of opinion... Not many questions are being asked in that thread. Statements are made. Mostly.
All of the information asked for is easily available.
Its just frustrating and all...

I acknowledge the frustration and your points are well taken, but I see no reason for rudeness here unless it's on a Ca$h basis. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Hehe, any chance to roast a mod eh?
Just make sure its well aimed is all I ask (I can think of better targets than Sean...)
Hmm... Perhaps something like this could help with the situation... a little admin input wouldn't go astray...

Just for the record, WE as posters need to moderate ourselves, too. Too many of us pen an "in your face response" which is just as inappropriate. I certainly have no axe to grind with Sean or any other Moderator here. With few minor exceptions, I think they a do a SPLENDID job. I only wish to point out our need to employ a modicum of tact and diplomacy whenever possible. Indeed, I may have overreacted last night at suddenly being faced with the news of AAPL hitting me a little too hard. Visions of Apple bashers crawling out of the woodwork today to lob their missiles at what is more of an industry wide slowdown issue.
Sean, like the rest of us may have just been having a bad night last night. Apologies proffered to Sean if he or others felt I was making this a personal issue with him. That was certainly not my intent.

Yeah, I'm sorry for blowing up a bit back there. I knew I'd take some heat for it, but someone had to draw the line somewhere.
I don't live here either. I do this on a voluntary basis (as Cipher said) and enjoy it. I don't like giving people a hard time. I was in the wrong by sounding a little bit rude, but I felt that something needed to be done.
I just hang around here to help people. I don't get paid, I just feel that I should contribute back to the Mac community. I'd appreciate you not taking your frustration out on me, because by doing this, I take added responsibility that does not have to be mine.
I'm repentent concerning my actions, but I had forseen this when I posted? What more do you want?
I treat newbies very well. If Ca$h has more posts than me, does it mean he's smarter, or for that matter, know more than I? No.

By the way, I asked him or her to check out the ones in plain view. I don't want to get into an arguement of words with you here.
Just a thought, and a misinterpretation.

Gotta tell ya folks, nothing is more frustrating than having to sift through "My DVD player won't play" or "My Office 98 dialog buttons have no text" posts over and over again. How many DIFFERENT threads are there on the Cube "cracks"? I don't know how you guys moderate these people sometimes.
As for rude posters like me - at least I'm not Ca$h!

Thanks, Sean for chiming in. I appreciated your comments. I would have posted "as much" earlier, but have been on the busy side on this end. The matter is all but forgotten.
Have a good one
