First, I've been a MacNN reader for over two years and love the site.

My main suggestion for improvement would be to standardize the look of all the sites. How about a central tab-bar across the top of the page with all the sites in it? (AppleInsider, OSX, etc...)

Maybe even a frameset with the bottom frame being a Mac OS X style "Dock" containing links to the sites...

Also, I think you would benefit if you merged with MacSlash. It's dumb to have two great sites with virtually identical content. Besides, their news posting page is easier to read...

I really like the site the way it is, but I would suggest that when you update the page throughout the day, that new items are always at the top of the list, instead of being inserted in the middle. This would probably also help with the repeating items that show up sometimes (deja-vu, anyone?)

I check it often throughout the day, and it annoys me a little to have to look through the whole list to see if there's anything new, instead of just checking the first few items at the top, but maybe that's just me.

I love this site! But it would be nice if you put the news in categories instead of throwing it all together on the main page. For example, have a few buttons on the left... one for hardware, one for software, one for events/meetings, one for media news, one for OS X info, one for hottopics in the forums,

When we log on, we can choose what topics we are interested in. I can tell you that it's really lame to read about how some shareware program just moved up to version 1.4 Preview Beta 3. If it were placed in a Software section... it would not only be more organized, but would allow me to focus on the good stuff .... hardware

Each day, you should pick three or four of the best interesting news items and place them at the top of the page.

Imagine... the morning edition usually consists of 5 or 6 items... Pick the best 3 and place them at the top. As the next edition is added, one or two items may bump the previous items... So, at the end of the day, you have 3 or 4 very interesting topics. Heck, you could even use web statistics to determine what goes on the daily hot list. If one article is read most, it gets placed at the top... followed by the next 2 or 3 hot items.

Obviously saturday and Sunday consistently have very little news. It's sad, but the first page I check is Macnn... and the weekend editions are lacking in news... this is understandable since the business week is over...So why not place interesting forum topics on the front page....

Even better.... let registered users customize the info we see on the front page. I could tell it to not show software and MacOS X info... that would be cool...

I posted a long list of things I would like to see changed at MacNN late last nigh... It still has not shown up in this forum... There was nothing said that makes MacNN look bad... so I don't understand why it is being censored...

That's a good idea. Assume that your post is being censored. It couldn't be a glitch, or heaven forbid a user error. Your paranoia is showing.

I agree with Sebastien: New messages always on top.

Also I find a wide margin around the text of the news. This space is wasted. I have lots of stuff happening on my monitor besides MacNN, and I think it's rude of anyone to waste my precious screen space. My 22" monitor cost more than an iMac after all. Now if you really want all that space, I'll be happy to rent you some.

Otherwise, I love this place!

Macbook Pro 2.2GHz Core i7 8GB. OS 10.6.8
