Requesting a Clock.

Well, my time zone is different to the MacNN Forums and at times I think it would be helpful if there is a clock on the front page of the MacNN Forums.
Could any administrators or moderators add a clock to the forums please.

well, the forums time stamp is Eastern Time, USA... (at least it is on my Mac) and GMT is five hours ahead of Eastern Time, USA
there is a "You last visited:" clock on the main/intro page of the forums and there is a time stamp on each post...
so what sort of clock would you like to see?
one that would reflect every timezone in the world? MacNN forums has members all over the world, i'm sure...
anyway, more precisely what did you have in mind?

wlonh, a clock displaying the time that the forums is using. New topics for each day start just after midnight base on the time the forums is using. So, it would be helpful if the users know when the daily topics will be refresh and post topics it accordance with that.

so i am missing something here.
the forums are on Eastern Time. there is a clock on the page which lists all the various forums, the main/introductory page of the forums...
the 'daily topics' as you call them are not refreshed, that is, not by MacNN. they are refreshed by you when you reload the forums page in your browser.
if you are asking when is the best time to post a question so it will be posted on the MacNN NEWS page, well, you have been less than clear...

wlonh, I am suprised that what I said does not seem clear to you. You know topics list in the daily active topics section of the forums are refresh just after midnight each day. If users can see a clock of the time the forums is using, we could post our messages at the time when those messages are most likely to be seen by other users, ie. list in the daily active topics for many hours.
Another reason to have a clock on the forums is that it would be easier for the users to know how many minutes, hours or days ago certain messages were posted.

well, for one thing now you are coming across with more specificity, for example you clarified your meaning somewhat when you named the 'daily active topics' as being your target here.
i still say calculate it yourself, it is sooooo easy.
i mean, the forums are on Eastern Time, what would be the difference if a clock was posted that demonstrates what you already know, that the forums run on Eastern Time...
and, i do not even use that feature 'today's active topics'... for my needs it does not give me any help, i know pretty much what is going on in the forums at any given moment and therefore i know what the active topics are.
really, there is no 'best time' to post...

wlonh, I can tell you it is not easy for me to calculate how long ago a message was posted at all. I do think it is quite convenient at times to know the time on the clock the forums is using, but if you don't want to put a clock there, then there is not much I can do.

look, you misunderstand my misunderstanding... i have absolutely nothing against your idea, i simply fail to see why it is necessary...
i am not trying to give you a hard time here, honest...
and i mean it when i say there is no 'best time' to post, i have been on these forums pretty much from day one, and all questions get answered (sometimes unsatisfactorily) at about the same rate, all questions get some response if at all possible...
btw, what is your timezone?

wlonh, my time is 16 hours ahead of the time being use by the forums. I think other users may also find it useful if there is a clock on the front page of the forums, that's all.

ok, i have emailed the higher authorities and they will see what can be done i am sure...
but in the meantime, you could use HourWorld to help you figure times...
HourWorld is shareware but can be used as freeware with less features, i find it handy for keeping in touch with my relatives as they are scattered around the world.
a new version just came out: HourWorld homepage

It seem like there will not be a clock on the forums. But anyway, there is a program called WorldClock that comes with the package at "ftp://ftp.mactech.com/dmark/Primer1/Primer_V1_68K_Apps.sit.hqx" that is much simpler than the HourWorld program.
I think the time for New York on the WorldClock program is the same as the time the forums is using. Am I right on that?
