Cuz he's sick of making new ones everynight. He just wants to make people laugh, and he hates it when people get all mad. He says to chill the hell out, smoke a joint, and be cool.
Give Ca$h his name back. Look what name he had to resort to using now! how truly pathetic.
PLUS he has to make a new email account for each one, so hotmail is going to wig out when they get like abillion never used names.

Yeah, I'll second that.
How can it really hurt? The net is s'posed to be a place where people can voice their opinion, and be themselves, without fear of reprimand.
Censorship truly sucks, especially when its about something as lame as being banned for 'promoting piracy'...
Just because someone says 'hey y'all, go and pirate GameX', does that mean people will do it?
Of course not.
If that was the case, god help us all...

If only his bans were just regarding piracy... Cash has consistantly insulted other members and offered up misinformation and lies, despite our requests for him to stop. Countless members have complained about his behavior, and have taken offense by it.
There is a minnimal level of conduct that we require of our members.
Censorship sucks, but chaos isn't any better.

No, but it has slowed him down quite a bit... he used to post far more frequently than he has been. I mean, how annoying is it to have to go register with Hotmail everytime you want to post? On the other hand, it takes me just 2 seconds to ban his new names... perhaps some day he'll realize there are better things to do.

I thought this sort of censoring was against your American Constitution? I do enjoy the imaginative names that ca$h comes up with but (if its worth anything) I think he should have his name back.
Some of these 'fora' can be very dry - ca$h just lightens things up a bit.

According to the agreement that you agreed to when you registered, we can do as we please... but of course doing so is detrimental to the forum as a whole.
We have no explicit policy, if that's what you're asking, so it is ultimately a discretionary call. We feel that after a member has been alertered as to their offending behiavor--and several times, at that--that we can take whatever action is needed to curtail their posts.

so, even though this guy has re-registered (and therefore, accepted the user agreement again and gained a new membership), you still count him as the same member? do you ban "members" or people? just curious...

Yeah, let him have it back. Som 11 year old is going to get an imac, and will try to register here with his dad. He'll try to get pikachu as a user name, but now it's gone. It's already getting hard enough to find user names on the internet w/out someone like cash taking all the ones that are easy to think of.
Anyways, he's given this forum a lot of personality the last several months. Without people like him around, this would be another boring, droll, tech site that no1 would stick around for. That's a bit extreme, but he's a necessary part of the macNN family.

The thing that I find funny is how much time we've put in to trying to get Cash to reform his ways so that he plays nicer with the forum membership.
I've personally called "Cash" 5-10 times in the past few months, pleading with him to stop posting certain types of posts (read anything advocating piracy) and to stop aggravating some of our volunteer moderators.
The fact of the matter is that this "cash" guy doesn't seem to respect anything... our moderators, our requests, our phone calls, etc... Does the membership of our forum really want us to let this guy keep doing what we ask him not to?
Seriously.
Cash doesn't respect our requests to stop doing what he's been doing or leave.
If we didn't want to make all of our AOL readers mad, we'd ban his IP address, to keep him away from here.
We've tried talking to him about the issues at hand, tried reaching a nice middle ground, and even tried contacting AOL about their user. All to no avail.
If you want to support MacNN, the best thing for you to do, is to ignore any post made by Cash, understand that he is not now, nor has co-operated with MacNN in the past, nor do we expect him to for a while.
Anyone wishing to discuss Cash with me can, but please do so by email.
Thanks for your time and support.
Sincerely,
John

Ok, thats fair enough, but... can MacNN be held accountable for someone elses advocation of piracy?
Other than that I really don't see the problem he is supposedly causing.
I mean, for one thing, if some of the people around here would lighten the hell up, this would not be nearly as large an issue as it is.
But... I'm not 'in the know', so can't really say.
This is based on what you've let us know, mostly, which is enough for me to have an opinion, obviously, as all the reasons you've banned him for are present in that released information...
But anyway...

Hrm. yeah, about me respecting people...uh... no I dont really. See, I only respect people if they give me respect. And I like to rip on stupid people....but... I dunno, with me you sorta EARN respect. I've made a lot of friends on these boards, and I respect them. Do I respect an admin who censors me and trash talks me (wlonh)? Nope. Do I respect other admins who are nice and kinda interesting, and give me their opinion without banning me (blizzard)? Yep.
And.... I'm a funny guy. I was voted 'most wack dude' in my class, actually. So I like to make people laugh. If most of the admins around here would lighten up, this place would be a lot more fun to be around. To me, I'd rather go to a party like delta delta on animal house. Full of fun people. But the admins seem more like that prep frap, with admitting people by spanking htem with a paddle, all wearing black robes. Maybe that was too far off, but... seriously, I'm not TRYING to piss anyone off (unless they are wrong and continue to argue with me), and I'm easy to get along with if you can take a joke.

Cash, your humor would be fine if everyone here were in their late teens and and, erm, partying like delta delta on animal house, as you put it. But they're not, and you have to learn to respect and understand that.
I don't mind your "wack" humor, as long as it's not offensive. Not because I take offense to it (I don't) but because others do and it brings down the boards.
There's a very minnimal level of decency that we ask of our members, and you're the only one who seems to have a problem with that, which leads me to suspect that it's not our policy that needs changing...

Ah, but the name/rules thing is not a catch-22 as you imply. If you don't post offensive messages, you can keep your nick (and I'll probably give you back your old one if you're "good" for a few days).
I only delete your nicks when I come across one that crosses the line... hence the reason that sometimes you have the same nick for a few days.
The piracy thing is simple... don't advocate it. Don't post references to it, don't complain about beta software you pirated, etc. If someone else has done this and we haven't caught it, it's not because we're biased, it's because we probably haven't seen it. So feel free to point it out to me or anyone other admin.

My two yen, since I just got done arguing with Ca$h (and hope to never do so again...because remember, Ca$h is always right!)
Originally posted by BritneyStains:

In other words, the only way to earn your respect is to agree with you totally. I can imagine your circle of friends. Does the word 'Borg' mean anything to you?
And.... I'm a funny guy. I was voted 'most wack dude' in my class, actually. So I like to make people laugh.
Matter of opinion, in this case, yours. Remember - you're also dealing with adults here - people who have jobs, families, obligations, not a bunch of college screwoffs who have nothing better to do than piss people off for fun. It's okay to disagree with people, but your method of disagreement is insulting and borders on hateful.
Maybe that was too far off, but... seriously, I'm not TRYING to piss anyone off (unless they are wrong and continue to argue with me), and I'm easy to get along with if you can take a joke.
You go out of your way to piss people off. And when they cry foul, you drive the drill in deeper for greater personal satisfaction. Also, your definition of 'wrong' entails anyone whose beliefs or likes/dislikes deviate from your own.
I'm not here to start another argument with you. That would give you too much satisfaction. In the spirit of the current thread, I vote for keeping you banned as long as you continue your miscreant ways. Maybe you'll get bored, and either find somewhere else to troll or change your attitude.
/e
[For the record: you don't even know how old the people you are posting against are, what their beliefs and sensitivities are, or where they come from (geographically and societally). When you called me 'middle-aged', what did you base this on? For all you know, I could be younger than you....food for thought.]

I have never learned, nor can I discern the difference, between constructive criticism, intellectual arguments, and thought provoking discussion. Instead I resort to name calling and laden my posts with offensive adjectives. It makes me feel smart. Perhaps some day I will learn.

ok, i've being hanging around these forums for a few months on and off and the nick that i notice more is ca$h so what if the guy pirates software...
so what if he rips on beta software... sure he instigates verbal violence toward other users, wouldn't it be easier just to delete the offending posts? i'm sure we'd all pretty soon find out where the "line" is.
i don't know ca$h, yes he is offensive but banning everyname he uses is only going to piss him off even more, then he will push the "line" further and upset yet more people. it's a vicious circle and the admins won't win this one, he'll just keep coming back with a new name.
and ca$h maybe you should put "if i am offensive ignore it, it's just me" in you're sig, you know just to appease the admins.
btw: are you eminem? same attitude.

It isn't a matter of censorship - these boards have become embarrassing. If MacNN have any pride at all, they will stop this crap.
Ca$h - you've really have worn out your welcome. There IS a time and place for everything and I am getting to the point where I am sick of your childish crap everywhere in the forums.
Not that anyone will care, but my days here are about to end. The juvenile crap one must wade through on a daily basis is not worth it. The "just ignore him" posts are a joke as well - he's everywhere and I intentionally stay out of chat rooms and the like for this reason. I come here to exchange ideas, help, get help. etc. not to listen to the 12 year old rant and try to get attention 24/7.
Adios,
Scott

One more time - WDL is absolutely right. Misha, et al., you need to delete his posts as soon as you see them. Granted, I will admit to somewhat enjoying the childish banter that's been going on here recently - but it's wearing thin. Because of it (the BS) I'm about to leave these forums (yup forums - not fora) myself - too bad because at one point I found them very valuable in helping me with my mac and I am sure that they were helpful to others as well. Don't tolerate this child and don't let him degrade these forums even further. Why give him another day or so? It's pretty clear what this guy is all about.

Misha 'et al'
The guy's already had a year, why would you think another day would make any
difference?
Squash his posts - any "normal" person would go elsewhere if they were continually
registering/posting and never seeing anything show up.
Seems simple to me.

slboett,
I will miss you and your G4 power on the Team. It will take my G4 350 about a year to make up the units you already have. I would rather be one spot lower than lose one of our heavy hitters.
Hope you hang around a bit longer, and that the admins/mods take care of things.

It has nothing to do with responsibility... we're not at all responsible. It has to do with maintaining the integrity of the forums, something that (as I have pointed out before) you seem unable to comprehend.
Some of your posts are helpful and some of them do contain interesting points, but you frequently belittle them (as well as other members) by expressing your points poorly. Anyone who you don't agree with you automatically call a moron, or their viewpoint stupid, or something similar.
Your reference to the whole sheep/shepard only confirms your unwillingness to accept that you are, in fact, bringing down the forums as several members have expressed, and instead backup your nonsensical points with even more nonsensical information.
You didn't have this problem a month ago, so I'm really not sure what's changed or what you're trying to prove, but it's going to stop.
