If feasible, permitting a registered user the option to delete his or her post would allow us to zap those annoying double posts, thus freeing our esteemed moderators for more worthy endeavours.

Or, if you see you've made a double post, you could edit one of them out.

Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Yonkers can have better TV reception.

Yes, UBB supports this feature. The reason why we don't enable it is to avoid having users delete their posts when they say something in error, are proven wrong, etc... such an action would disrupt the thread as users haven't read it yet would be lost as to why JoeSchmoe was telling JillSchmoe to do XYZ when JillSchmoe apparently didn't post anything.

That also occurred to me ... perhaps if the 'delete' feature could be disabled once another reply had been posted to follow yours. In other words, only the most recent post to a given thread would be deletable by the user.
Of course, at this point, I'm most assuredly dreaming in vivid technicolor!

hehe, yes, kinda like Solitare, where you can only move the top-most card, in this case, delete the last msg inorder for the 2nd to last to be deleted...that'll be funny, seeing posts like "Hey XXX, delete your reply after I delete this post tomorrow, so I can delete that original msg I posted"....oy...

G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...

One little flaw: if XXX is asked to delete his/her last reply, he/she wouldn't be able to do it because the last reply is now the "Please delete" request.
Unless the request was done personally by email. Better yet, in a new forum topic "Message deletion forum" !!!
About Misha's reasoning: there wouldn't be too much difference between disabling the "Delete Message" feature and disabling the "Edit Message" feature. They both are useful because they allow people to retract flames, insults and ****-ups, seconds after hitting the "Submit" button.
**************************
See what I am saying? I didn't understand what 'donut was meaning with his reply and I surely ****ed-up with my "you are flawed" comment. I would use now the delete checkbox but I can't.

Can't users just edit their entire posts with a "..."?

You are correct sir! That is indeed the way it's done.
My idea was to facilitate the complete removal of an unintentional post, for asthetic reasons if nothing else. A trifling matter I suppose.
Misha's point regarding the removal of posts from the body of the thread was well taken. Doing so would certainly disrupt the flow of the thread.
Perhaps the best way to avoid a double post would be to close the window once the post has been submitted. Using the 'back' button could not then resubmit the post.

(sorry slboett, i HAD to do it, the DEVIL himself made me!) the instance i recall, to be VERY clear, is one time that i went back and edited MY OWN post's content... not yours nor someone else's... though i have had to edit other posters posts, like just today someone (NOT slboett) was advocating piracy of iMovie2... naughty naughty...
slboett, so glad we are friends now *whew*, which reminds me, i need to call you from the batmobile as i cruise around Gotham...

Best protection for that is to use the "Reply with quote" button
