I know that a "third party software" forum exists, but I think a lot of people would enjoy a Photoshop forum...all by itself. Just a suggestion.

That'd go under multimedia... if you have a PhotoShop forum, then you need a FCP forum, and a Lightwave forum, and a Bryce forum - it never ends.
Just stick it in Multimedia

Strictly speaking Photoshop is "multimedia," but most Photoshop posts by far go to Third-Party Software and are gladly accepted there. Our Multimedia forum focuses on audio/video: QuickTime, iTunes, Final Cut Pro, etc.
The idea of some kind of "graphic arts" forum has been tossed around for a while, but I don't know if/when it might happen.

I assume nigel is speaking of a forum that would perhaps pertian to discussion of PhotoShop techniques, tips, etc, whereas I would imagine the Third Party Software forum is more for troubleshooting apps, and for apps that don't come under multimedia, Internet, or games.
General discussion I imagine should be contained within multimedia, with PhotoShop troubleshooting still within the third party software forum...
Oh well, thats just the way I see it.

Yes, I think that a place for Photoshop users to go and exchange ideas would be great. I know that several places exist within MacNN for generalized software troubleshooting, use, etc., but since so many people use Photoshop...I just figured that it could be a "community within a community" kind of thing.
However, I see your point, Cipher. I didn't look at it from the perspective of having so many other great products in the graphics arena and not having a place for them either. I guess it's just one of "those things."
The "graphic art" forum would be a great idea, too.

I recall suggesting a Graphic Art/Design forum back when all the special forums were chopped down into the Multimedia & DV forum. There are quite a few Artsy forums around the net, but I think a mac-centric forum frequented by quite a few people that otherwise wouldn't bother to seek out such material would be helpful to everyone.
That, and I know Photoshop inside and out and would love to help people.
Imagine:
Graphic Art/Design

Well... for the 3D aspect, take a look at the bottom of your window. Links to the Architosh forums... dunno how well that would fit with Photoshop though. None of the links look related, but I haven't checked any, so who knows...
Oh well, its a start

Demonhood, if you frequent the "multimedia & DV" section, then I'll keep watching that spot. I'm relatively new to Photoshop, but I'm learning quick. I've always got questions, though. I need to learn it well so I can get my web building empire up and running (well, maybe not empire, but something like that).
Email me if you're interested in corresponding about PS...specifically 6.0.

I would like to see a Graphic Art forum as well.
I know Adobe and Macromedia both have their own forums but they aren't nearly has easy to use as MacNN or as well done. And I must say I've gotten much better info from the MacNN postings on games, networking and multimedia than I have in other topic specific fora.

That's exactly what I'm saying! I think MacNN has the most Mac-enthused people in one place at one time. I know that many graphic utility users frequent MacNN, and I bet they would all enjoy a central location for the exchange of ideas. The "multimedia & DV" area is good, but I don't often find topics specific to what we're talking about here. I bet the "membership" would grow quite a bit with a "graphic arts" section...

I've been asking around, and I think (and hope) there is enough traffic for this forum.
The forum will tentively titled "Graphics/Illustration" but I'm looking for a moderator (as well as moderators for other forums). Email me if you're interested in helpling us and the Mac users on this board by moderating a forum.
best,
monish

That was what I was wondering...I haven't heard anything for about a month. I got an email or two in the beginning, then nothing.

Same here. I've even sent in like 5 messages to Misha and so far I've gotten no responses. I'm guessing they're busy trying to get the Forums to run smoothly with all this traffic and are worried another forum might mess things up even further.
These boards, however, have been running smoother recently. So perhaps our beloved Graphics Forum will spring to life shortly.

Man, I hope so. I've dug in deeper with this Adobe graphics thing, and it would be nice to be able to post about some things when they pop up. Maybe soon...

Ok, I've figured out some of the performance issues with the forums and I think I'm ready to open the new Graphics/Illustration area. For those people that volunteered to moderatore a few weeks ago, I apologize for not being more responsive. We just solved the news database problem--you should notice that comments on stories should be *much* faster now--and now we're focusing on improving the performance of these forums. If you're interested in helping moderate the new forum, (re)email me directly at mkbhatia@macnn.com.
best,
monish

While I agree with Cipher in principle, I have to say a photoshop forum would rock. I would visit it every time I am here.
Saying that, the graphic/illustration area mentioned above would rock pretty well too.

There are lots of other photoshop/graphics forums but I too would like to support the idea of one here. Most of the ones I've seen are not very populated, and you often have to wait days for a reply if you ever get one at all. Thanks for the planetphotoshop link though I'll certainly check it out.

Now the Graphics/Illustration forum is up and running, how about a link together with the other 27 at the bottom of each forum.
Maybe it would get a few more hits.

Hey guys -
Thanks for the new Design/Illustration Forum! (I just found it today)
I hope this will be a great addition to MacNN.
Any chance we can get the link added into the page footer?

Can we rename the forum to Graphics/Illustration/Design ?
And is anyone going to respond to the mod position emails that have been sent?
