This is a plea to the moderators of these forums.. PLEASE do not close threads without at least giving a good reason to do so. If you close a thread because you think it was not in quite the correct forum, and then perhaps decide to move the thread, at least spare the time to explain what you have done and why. Much of the time it seems rather petty that many threads are closed and/or moved when often it's not always necessary. I think this especially confuses or annoys new comers to the forums.
And on a related subject, I think the Modifications forum is a little pointless. I see no reason why such subjects can't be covered in the other hardware forums. For instance, if someone is querying modifing thier iMac, Then I think it may as well be queried in the iMac forum. After all, it's not like all the additional posts are going to clog the threads up or anything. And yet it is still a related subject.

Don't forget that about a gazillion people begged incessantly for a Mac Modification forum. Looks like you got outvoted.

it is clearly and unambiguously posted above all threads that are closed in one forum and transferred to another that that is exactly what has transpired... it is often obvious enough why a thread has been transferred and if you feel otherwise then you should just consider that it is a judgement call on the part of moderators/aministrators and accept that
we can not accommodate everyone's opinion as to where a post belongs, there are forum categories and that should be clear enough indication as to what content for any post in a given forum should be. it is a rather ungrateful practice to look a gift horse in the mouth, meaning that all moderators and administrators endeavor to help the people posting in the forum and having to constantly deal with people second-guessing the actions and motives of the moderators and administrators is very tiresome and detracts from the time they have available to help others. this should be a matter of good common sense and manners.

Well I can honestly say that i'm not being at all ungrateful. If I were then I would not be here using these forums. I enjoy using these forums! But my point still stands Re: the not at least giving a reason to close threads. I'm not saying it happens all the time, but it does happen. And not giving a reason just seems lazy.
As for the Modifications forum, Ok, Point taken, However, it just seems that we have so many topic headings now. If you think about it, we are almost to the point where we don't need an iMac Forum or a G3,G4 or Cube forum or whatever.. Much of the time the forums are used to discuss problems, which are inevitably software related, meaning that it's not likely to be a hardware specific problem at all. Sure, you still need a peripherals forums etc, I just think things could be slimmed down a little. 25 or so subject headings is a lot to navigate your way around when everyone is essentially discussing the same kind of computer!

I think you're crazy. I love the way MacNN is set up. The more topics, the better. Why if it wasnt for the new MacNN Lounge forum, I wouldnt even be here!
And the mod's kick ass!
