let users should be able to choose the number of posts listed

On the page that shows the recently updated topics, the list is always limitted to 40 entries. For people with a slow dial-up, I can understand this measure, but I would like to see all entries on the same page, so that I can just scroll through them - I have cable access and so I won't wait long. Couldn't we just choose the number of entries ourselves on the preference page?

[edit: I screwed up the title somehow, but I guess you'll still get it]

I enthusiastically second Simond's motion.
Let's hope that Infopop's BB app support it.

Dear Admins,
While you're making that change it would be great to have a way to "jump to" "TODAY'S ACTIVE TOPICS".
So far, after posting a reply and being shown the thread after my reply is posted I have found that I have to go to first Forums page, then click on "TODAY'S ACTIVE TOPICS", then scroll to bottom to click on "View Next Page", then repead (b) and (c) until I get to whatever page of "ACTIVE TOPICS" I was viewing or "BackPage" through all the posting process.
It would be nice to be able to one-click back to wherever I was in "TODAY'S ACTIVE TOPICS".

I third Simon's motion! How about a cookie that rememers users options - like a longer list option!
respectfully,

How about a pop-up applet featuring:
=> a live list of current forums and topics with sorting features (by date, subject, member, etc)
=> a scrolling 'MacNN Members currently browsing the boards' indicator
=> an indicator/alarm for updates made by fellow MacNN members to a recent post
that would be nice.

I strongly second Osiris' suggestions.
Hey mods and admins, do you even read these threads? No replies even after two days! Common guys, give us some hope.

Maybe we should make word association out of this thread, that would sure wake one of those sleepy mods. Then they'll probably shut it... But with a little bit of luck they'll read our suggestions before sending it to nirvana.

I would suggest making a habit out of opening threads in new browser windows, from whatever list you may be viewing. This would eliminate many of your difficulties very easily.

Of course I already am doing this. Nevertheless it isn't a solution to the problems that were mentioned in this thread.
1. For people with larger bandwidth than with a PPP dial-up modem we need to be able to view more than just 40 entires per forum. Of course this is useful to reduce the data stream, but if you have high bandwidth access it just slows you down pretty much and gives you less overview. This could be easily implemented with personal settings stored in a cookie.
2. The "today's active topics" list is very nice but it lacks sorting and including/excluding features. Going to a certain forum and looking at for newer threads as well as searching the thread database are no substitution because it's much too tedious compared to having the possibilities of advanced sorting/searching criteria that can be stored personally - again, cookies would do the job.
3. The possibility to set an alarm to show you that a certain thread has been altered is also very desirable. If you start a thread you can check this option, but if someone else started it and you just replied to or read the thread the alarm isn't possible. I think this is also a storngly lacking feature.
Com'on Misha, give us some feedback on the possibilities of implementing our suggestions, after all, what else is this forum for.
