I like the new look--sort of reminds me of the wild west, spaces everywhere. The note about who posted last is nice I guess, but really useful only if you spend each minute of the day waiting to read the most recent posting. On the whole, though, it's much better designed than a butterfly ballot

The "last post" note lets you know if anyone has made a post after you without you having to remember how many posts were made before you. I think the new look is pretty nice, too.

More "kudos" here on the new feature. And, here's a question: Is there supposed to be some visual indication of threads with new posts since your last visit? Other UBB forums have that, where the icon in the left column changes color if new posts are there. They then handle the "hot" threads with a flaming gif. Here, the different color only indicates a thread with more that 15(?) posts. Having this feature is even more definitive than the name of the person who posted last, because if you read a thread, but did not post to it, your name won't be at the bottom the next time you visit.

Neat! I just discovered if you click on the name of the last one to post, it opens the thread, and takes you to the bottom!

Yes, the forums should indicate for you the new posts since your last visit (document icon with alias arrow). If this is not working for you, delete your cookies and re-set them. It works fine for me, and just about everyone I know.

Some web wizzard passed by!

I would say a few more improvements could be done, but that's not bad at all the way it is.

Misha, add me to the "just about" list. I know I've tried that before, but I did it again, twice, and still no visual. I don't even know what it's supposed to look like, because it's not in the "key" at the bottom. I also am not getting my User Name and Password saved, in spite of my prefs being set to do that. Beats me.

I like the feature (esp the jump to end of thread deal) but it's wasting a line of space. Not as many posts are showing up onscreen. Can we squish the top line to make room for it? I hate scrolling unless I have to.

that's a good point... the "post new topic" and "post reply" buttons could easily be moved up a little so that they're beside the folder/forum path.

Misha, this problem with not seeing the threads with new posts, and not having my User Name and password saved is bugging me more than I realized. I visit other UBB forums, and I don't have those problems. Here is the link I use to get here... http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/Ulti...assCookie=true

I note that the "BypassCookie=true" part is there on at least one other forum where I do not have these problems. I like the new look at MNN, but wish I was getting more of the old look too.

Gregg, have you tried deleting your cookies yet for MacNN?

I really don't know why that's happenning... is anyone else having a problem? As I said before, everyone I know has had that feature working fine for months.

Btw, I tweaked the design, guys, so 90% of the threads should now be on one line again. I will be adding more features when I have the time.

Nice tweak, Misha. Yes, I tried that again. (Said that above, you must have missed it.)

Misha -
Two questions -
One - is your tweaking why I had a sloooowwwww time get on yesterday?

Two - with the new look and updates does that mean that chat could be coming soon? While the MacNN room at AppleInsider is a doable work around, it'd nice to have it here and not have to leave the site. I bet your advertisers would appreciate that.

Thanks for your work - it is appreciated.

Gregg,

I missed you cookies comment before. You have me stumped, I'm not sure why it's not working for you but its for everybody else.

jholmes,

Yes, chat is very high up on my to-do list. I need about an hours worth of time to implement it, something that will be hard to come by these next couple days... I'm working on an editorial feature that some of you will surely appreciate when it's done.

Gregg--

I had a problem like what you describe some time ago, but it disappeared when I went to the following URL:
http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/Ulti...assCookie=true

I don't know it that will work for you, but you might try it.

Just added stars, for all of you who pride yourselves on the number of posts you make!

Next up... chat (most likely). I'm going to move this to the Suggestions & Comments forum.
