On other UBBs they sometimes have a function that lets you message other users, like email. I would like to see something like that here.

There is a live chat suggestion going here. It will soon be implemented whenever Misha has the time. Also, many of us are on AIM or ICQ chat programs. If you click on the Profile Icon for any member's post there is a place for the member's ICQ number.

AIM and ICQ are fine, but I don't necessarily want to chat live with someone as much as I've wanted to ask or say something privately to one specific person. I'd like Private Message capabilities, too.
I know you can do that with ICQ, too, but it means having another application open. With the Private Message feature, you could get your messages as soon as you come here.

as it stands, we don't "Log In" to MacNN forums, the purpose being (I assume) to not intimidate newbies/nonregistered users. perhaps MacNN would like to give us all email@macnn.com?
many users (like myself, for instance) can be emailed by clicking on the icon above our posts.
those who cannot be emailed in this fashion are those who desired to not be privately emailable. there is an option somewhere in the Profile to set this, where you set your email address.
