I have heard a lot about this recently, putting a macos on a pc chip. It all stems from Steve Jobs calling a mac a pc at the latest convention. And you know what? I think it is a great idea. cheaper parts, cheaper boxes, and a damn fine os. Sure the pent chips can stand up to apple's, but the price per chip is way better. plus you could put it on an athlon if you feel that intel slept with the devil by making a chip that runs microsoft. What are y'alls views?

well if youo want to have no software, thats a great idea. i can see apple adding a second arcitecure in the near future, but not until we see alot of carbon apps (carbon apps being os specific, not hardware specific) but not till then.

i think apple is going to see if moto can make a comeback, whhile it gets mac software in order.

Yeah, OSX86 is out there. 30 stories undergound at 1(-6) Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA.
It will be released only if the Mac dies, like hardware wise.
Apple is a hardware company remeber...

apple is not especially a hardware company. They outsource the production of their chips, and past that, there isn't a whole lot that is apple specific in the box. apple took off because of their software and people bought their hardware because that's the only way to get their software

The PowerPC G4 chip is very very powerful compared to any x86 type chip. I think it would be very stupid for Apple to ditch such a powerful piece of hardware. I think Apple and IBM sould start threatning Motorola to get their act together. I think that MacOS X will help increase Apple's Hardware sales dramatically, and how Motorola that it will benifit a them a lot to increase R&D on the G4 Chip and Altivec.

You may be right.
Personally I think that Apples success lies in its software.
But, according to them, they are a hardware company.

why not just skip the atholons and just use an alpha? get amd to ditch the x86 instruction set, and give us faster chips.

what about transmeta? i heard that their chips can run just about anything.

The Alpha's are too expensive, hot, and drain too much power... that'd be a real pain.
It would rock though.
The Transmeta's can run most things, but, they are slow. Sure they can scale... but they're s l o w... I'm talking half-G3 speed I think...
My vote goes to the Power4. I know, too expensive. What about power and cost?

but the amd chips are dirt cheap... couldn't amd just create a new flavor of the athalon, and then we would have slain the mhz myth...

i doubt this would happen, since they would have to retool their facilities to make a new chip... power4 might be nice especially if apple is trying to get some servers and workstations in to the market...

shame moto won't come to the rescue with the apollo g4s running at over 1 gighz, and moreover an a g5 running at 2 gighz

boy can i dream =)
