This is something I have noticed. Why can't we delete our own posts? They are our posts. So why aren't we allowed to delete them?

The only reason I bring this up is because when somebody double posts, they end up either leaving it, or saying something like "Sorry, double post." Now I think that there is simply no point to having that. I think that if and when a double post occurs, the person who posted should have the ability to delete it. I understand that the Mods and Admins can do that (and they do) but I think it would better the forums, and the lower the Mods/Admins workload if we were given the choice to delete them.

Just a thought.

My first thoughts are this: once something is submitted, it becomes property of macnn forums. If we would allow people to delete posts, it might kinda ruin the flow of a thread, as someone else might refer to it later.

I speak for myself, and not macnn

That is a logical explanation, but there is a latent flaw in it. We are allowed to edit our messages within these fora. Messages are edited for spelling, grammar, or to add content. We could essentially eliminate MacNN's property by editing our post and deleting the content. Then the thread is left with blank post that states that it has been edited.

I am against enabling users the ablility to delete posts, because I feel that it would disrupt the flow of the threads and the entire MacNN Reader Fora. I just want readers to realize that board members currently can delete the post(content) if they so wish. But it will look stupid with a blank post.

I'm sorry if I didn't make this clear. I am against letting people delete other people's threads or posts. What I am saying is that we should be allowed to delete OUR OWN posts and threads to eliminate double posts. If we had the ability to delete each other's posts, then the forums would fall apart.

- bliz was kidding

- you can already "delete" your posts

- moderators should handle deleting double posts
<or> UBB should really not allow double posts because of flood control - there is a flaw in the system... tell them to fix it!

I've tried to delete a double post and failed. But it's a great idea.

The only down side would be if a post that many folks replied to was deleted from the middle of a thread, the thread would make sense anymore. But that happens already when people edit their posts.

That's what I'm sayin' - you can essentially delete them already. Crud.

I agree--I think we should have the ability to delete our own posts, thus decreasing the workload of the Administrators and Moderators of a forum. When I double posted once, I edited it to an embarressed post asking wlonh to delete it. Aah well.
