I was as disappointed as anyone in the new MacNN layout until I was directed to http://macnn.com/macnn.phtml

While not as distinctive as the old layout, this intermediate "new-old" layout is at least readable (the main news column uses the same clean typeface as the old layout instead of the helter-skelter typefaces of the completely new layout), and even has some advantages. I encourage all who preferred the old layout to check out this alternative layout and bookmark it so that it will be maintained.

I clicked the link but iCab gave me a blank page and Netscape Comm gave me a "No such file (404)" page.

I don't know why it's not working - it works if you just type it into your browser URL window, though. I got the link from post #4 on the "New Look Comments" thread in this forum (thanks to mkbhatia). That link still works.

Thanks - it's working now (I used the period to end the sentence and unfortunately it got incorporated into the URL).

I still dislike the harsh white background, I'm still disappointed that the old site is gone, and in the fact that content appears to have diminished in both quantity and timeliness. But this "new" version beats the other "new" version.

Hey, there's even a link to this from the main page now, called "classic view." A decent compromise I think.

And I was very plesantly surprised to see new news this morning the first time I checked (old habits die hard). Perhaps I was a bit hasty to jump down the throats of the folks responsible...looks like maybe the last two sparse news days were indeed just a temporary thing. If this rebound continues, I will be munching happily on my right shoe.

I do still think NewsFactor has brought an undesirable element to the site, but I also understand the circumstances that necessitated the change. It's a shame, but what can you do?
