I just wanted to warn those that are thinking of purchasing more memory for their macs since the prices are getting pretty low, DO NOT order from 1-800-4-MEMORY. I thought that I was really getting a great deal from them 4 256MB chips, two for my powerbook and two for my iMac DV, for about $225, until I found out how they run their operation. I placed the order by 10:30am on a friday, I was later told that since the order was over the limit it would have to be sent 2-day FedEx, which they said later they were not going to charge me the extra $6 cost. That was fine, but I figured that since the order was placed on fiday morning, I should recieve it by Tuesday. So Monday morning I called 1-800-4-MEMORY back to try to find my tracking number so that I could find out the expected arrival time, so I could be in the lab when the package arrived. I was told by the person that I talked, I think it was Mario, to that the shipping office was busy, but he would call me back with the information, so I asked if he could just email it to me and he said sure. So I gave him my email address and waited until about 4:30 pm to check, and to my surprise there was no email from him. So I called them back again, and this time I was told by Mario that he could not get the information because the shipping department was closed, although if you listen to the message when you call it states that they are open until 6pm. But I overlooked this, and he assured me that I would be recieving my package Tuesday, and that there had been no problems. So I figured on Tuesday morning I would call back for the tracking number just to satisfy my inquisitive nature. When I plugged the tracking number in at the FedEx site, it said that my pakage had left Monday at 5:56pm. I went hmmmmm, I called and placed the order on Friday, my account was charged friday, I talked to the customer service person Mario at least twice since then and was assured that my package had gone out on friday, and that I should be recieving it on Tuesday, but it is not slated for delivery until at least Wednesday, if not Thursday. So when I called to talk to someone about this I was told that since it was such a large charge there might have been a problem with my credit card, which there was not and the charge did go through on friday, and I was made to feel as though it was my fault. So I asked this woman in shipping who I should talk to about this, and she told me to talk to Rich and gave me his extension. Of course I have not been able to reach Rich at his desk.
So in summary my experience with this company has been an AWFUL, HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE, that I hope to save other people from having to deal with going through. There were other ram dealers with the same prices, I wished I had called one of them first.
So if you are planning on ordering memory, I caution you against ordering from 1-800-4-MEMORY!!!
A concerned Mac lover!
