Can you post a message saying "Thread transfered to _______" when transfering threads?
They do it on AppleInsider and it keeps people from asking where did this go or why is it locked, etc

If you look at the top of the page of a transfered thread, there's a message telling you that it has been move...

As noliv points out, the message is there.
One hack that I've been considering implementing would automatically forward the user to where the new thread resides when they click on a thread has been moved (and closed). What do you guys think of this? I think it might confuse newbies who wouldn't realize they had been transferred and then wouldn't see their post in the original forum that they were in when they clicked the thread... for everyone else, though, I think it would be handy.

Ok, I'll get my suggestions where they belong, rather than in the Lounge...
Misha, you might be right about an automatic transfer confusing someone. Also, it could be annoying to an oldtimer who just wanted to look to see if and where a thread was moved to before continuing to browse the threads in that forum. Then you have to go back there, an minor irritation.
What about the "THREAD CLOSED" box where "Post Reply" is supposed to be saying "Moved to wherever"? -when a thread is moved, because when it's moved, it's not really closed - it's just closed in one forum, but remains open elsewhere. Then "Thread Closed" could mean what it says; that you won't find it anywhere else; it's closed.
A deleted thread would be different. A new, locked thread called "Topic X Deleted" could be posted with or without commentary. That would head off the time wasting I mentioned in the Lounge.
My other Suggestion from the Lounge: I'll point out the obvious: That notice at the top is easy to miss. If you've been reading a thread, the first thing you do is hit 'end' and 'page up' or 'page down' to find where you left off. A notice at the end would be more effective. Once you know where to look, sure, you can look there, but with thousands of users, and new users coming on, the education campaign would have to be continuous. Maybe the notice should be a unique color, and at both the top and bottom?

I highly agree with gregg on this one. I never notice the "Thread moved" message. It would be best, IMHO, if quick, locked threads were created by the person who moved/deleted them. It's much easier on the visitors to read that, then it is to try and find where the thread has been moved to on their own.
However, I also realize that this may take too much time for the moderators and admins. They already have to wade through message after message, making sure of this and that. To add to that could create a huge burden, and may make it so some mods/admins may not be able to do their job as expected.
Descisions, descisions.

Adding my two cents, I, too, think this is a good idea, but I also like Misha's idea of a link transfering the reader to the new forum. That could get confusing if you automatically do it when the reader clicks on the topic, but if you made a "Thread Closed" Link (at the bottom of the page for those of us who practice the last post method) that when clicked on, it could automatically transfer you. Thereby, accommodating almost everyone.
Okay, maybe that's four cents worth...

How about simply different icons for closed threads and transferred threads, keeping everything else the same? Closed threads could still have the lock, and maybe transferred threads could have some sort of arrow thing? I think that would work very well!
