I'm not sure what you mean. You mean a thread is listed as having 9 replies, and you can see only 6 or something? Can you give a specific example?

Proxy servers, and cached files.
What browser are you using?
Cable, dial up, DSL Internet?
Netscape handles this better than IE. Hitting reload should fix it, or if not, hold Apple-Option and click on the page, and go to super reload, which will request new data from the proxy server if there is one.
I dunno, maybe Option-refresh in IE does the same thing...

This is a bug in Internet Explorer 5. Notice that hitting refresh doesn't help. I've started a few threads in the internet software section but there's no fix for IE at this time.

However, look in your Internet Folder for Netscape Communicator 4.7. Run that - it works well in these forums. If you can't see all the posts - hit Reload in Netscape and they will appear. So I've been using Netscape 4.7 for the forums - and IE5 for everything else. Good luck. Let us know if that works........joe

PS later you may want to raise the memory settings for both IE5 and NS4.7. It helps with reliability.

I gave up on IE last year when I was having similar problems over at AI - switched to Netscrape which worked a charm. However I found that running IE and OE on the PowerBook (FW) when I bought it caused the whole damn machine to reset itself. Funny thing is no such problem with the iMac.

Sorry - it doesn't 'work like a charm.' It has the identical problem described above. The only difference is that w/Netscape, you can hit Reload as a workaround. You have to pay attention because both IE5 and NS4 will see all replies at certain times. But there's more to it so let's clarify the problem along with the browser reactions:

Problem :
Using Internet Explorer Mac (AND Netscape Mac) you sometimes can't see all the replies in the forums. Example - 10 replies are listed in the thread but you only see 6. And those 6 replies are 1-2 days old.

Software solutions :
IE5 Mac - won't see the other replies for a day - even if you hit Refresh.
NS4/6 Mac - will see the other replies if you hit Reload (sometimes twice).
IE5 PC - will see all the replies *ALL THE TIME*

I wish u$ would put as much effort into IE5 Mac as IE5 PC. And given the 'stability' of NS6, I don't put much faith in AOL to get a bug fix any time soon either. That leaves 3rd party like iCab. Nothing agaisnt iCab, it has advantages. But it doesn't have all the functionality of IE and NS. I suppose the other possibility is that the problem is in the way MacOS9 handles cache - which may be why both NS and IE are effected despite being different programs. But there's no way to tell until someone finds and fixes the problem. In the meantime I'd suggest using both NS and IE and raise the memory settings (necessary for stability). 32MB works well for me. And yes, I'm here on a PC running IE5 - otherwise I wouldn't see these recent posts .....joe

You get used to the reload workaround after a short time.
Its the best option for the moment, isn't it?
It'll have to do... by the way, if you're on a decent connection, turn off caching, and also, bypass any proxy servers if at all possible.

There really isn't any choice except to use the workaround. That's what I've been doing for about a month now since I stumbled on it by accident. The only time it's annoying is when you loose track of which threads update vs those that don't (especially the longer threads). Netscape forces a reload when you jump again back to check the stats but still won't update the replies when you jump forward again until you Reload. A minor inconvenience but an annoying one. The bit that rises above the annoyance level is that this all works on PC (this is a Mac forum afterall). Sure, the PC browsers get updated more frequently. But the Mac browsers are long overdue. A minor bug fix isn't asking too much. AOL and u$ should get off their duffs already. What ever happened to that IE5.5 update anyway? I thought it was in beta last fall........joe

ok, I have IE5 and I have never noticed this problem.
I don't ever count the number of replies, but I do click on the link
that lets you see the last post. What happens when you do that
if it can't be seen?

Hm... good thought
I just went and tried it, and it brought me to the TOP of the out-of-date page.
It couldn't find the right anchor, so it just left me at the top. I had to hit reload to see the last post.

The reason you don't notice it is cause you're on a dial up connection, which doesn't have some of the issues with proxy servers, etc, that cable does.
