How can I split a mpeg movie?

I can't edit it in QT6. If I export it then I lose the sound. I tried JAW MPEG2 but that program sucks and doesn't work. Any other suggestions? Could I export the sound and video as separate tracks then combine them in cleaner? I can't believe there isn't a simpler way to do this on a Mac.

Demux the mpeg into video and audio tracks, then work with those.
