I want to burn my mp3 files onto a cd that can be played in any cd player. I've been told that I need some software to convert the files, but everything I've found has been for pc?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

You don't even need a built-in CD-RW. iTunes happily supports my rather ancient QPS Firewire 8x burner.

I'm having no trouble burning cd's to play on my computer, but they don't play on a regular old cd player, or in the car cd player.
Does anyone out there know how I can make a cd on my imac that I can play in ANY cd player, not just the computer?
Thanks again.

Try a different brand of CD-R blanks. Some CD players are rather picky on what CD-R media you use.

no, not really. i don't think anyone can tell you what media will work in ALL players, because i'm sure no one has tried them in ALL players. pick a specific brand (some good, name brand media, not the generic kind), burn disc, and try it. if it works, great, if it doesn't, try another brand. it's a hit or miss operation.
in the end, it may not even be the media, it may be the fact that your cd players are just really bad at reading CD-R's, maybe they're just old players. i have an old sony discman from like 5 years ago, and it sometimes stutters when playing CD-R's.

Under your iTunes Preferences, Burning, make sure that the format selected is Audio CD (and not MP3). MP3 CDs will only work on MP3-compatible CD players.

And make sure you're not burning onto a CD-RW disc. I don't think a 'regular' CD player will accept them...only CD-R.

One more tip: in my experience, the CDR's with dark surfaces dont work well in other cd players. Find cdr's that have a lighter color, like one you would buy from a music store. make sense?

iTunes 3 (freeware) and some regular CD-R cd's should do the trick, just create a playlist of things you want on cd and choose burn.
Don't buy CD-RW for the job not all audio systems accept them, just simple CD-R 74 mins or 80 mins.

For all the suggestions. I checked in my itunes preferences, and audio cd is what is checked. the cd's I'm recording on are a white Memorex cd-r - 700 mb, 80 minute. It will play fine in my computer, but not in any of the other cd players I've tried - the newest one being in my car that's only a year old.
Anyone else out there have any suggestions?

Memorex should work. I've used them without a problem in my auto, CD players, computers.
The only CD player I've had any problem with is a Sony mini stereo w/CD player. It likes Sony CD-R's only. (Imagine that.)
