From what I understand (and have found), you need QuickTime 5+ to view Sorenson 3 correct? I'm helping a family member get their demo reel online and Sorenson 3 looks better than Sorenson (which plays with QT4).

My question: Are there many QT4 users left to worry about? We'd of course add a "QuickTime 5 or Greater Required" button, and I imagine that employers he'd potentially work with (animation, art, etc) would be reasonably up to speed on QuickTime versions.

Any advice is much appreciated. I'm still basically a newbie when it comes to encoding and codec choice. The Sorenson 3 reels are here: http://peringer.com.

Go with QT 5. It's been out for over a year now. Given the audience I'd say it's a safe bet they have 5 . . . and if they don't, I doubt it's a company he'd want to work for.

I've also got a suggestion. Since audio is 70% of what we see, go with a better codec than QDesign Music. Use IMA 4:1 or mp3, even if you end up with a larger file size. It'll be worth it. Hell, what's another 600k or so if the file is 20+ megs.
