MPEG-2 in Final Cut Pro 2.0

I've recently attempted to create a Charlie's Angels music video, using footage from the DVD. After extracting the VOB files and demuxing them, I originally decided to convert the resulting MPEG-2 files into MPEG-4 movies, using Mac MPEG-2 Converter. I would then import these MPEG-4 movies into Final Cut Pro 2.0 and edit them. However, I wasn't happy with the quality of the MPEG-4 files, and the resulting music video - due to a lack of HD space, I had to compress the video quite a bit.

Then Apple released the add-on for QT6, which gave it MPEG-2 playback capabilities. Great, I thought, now I can go back and use the original MPEG-2 files, by simply reconnecting the media in Final Cut to them. Only problem is, Final Cut doesn't seem to like QT6's MPEG-2 decoding, as every time I try exporting the music video to a DV stream or Quicktime file, parts of it freeze and parts go blocky.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this, so that Final Cut can work directly with MPEG-2 files with no hitches?

I think that part of the problem is that QT6 is only qualified for FCP3 under Jaguar. I've also read that MPEG-2 support in QT6 hasn't been astounding thus far. I think that apple "tells" you to stay with QT5 or below until Jaguar comes. I know this doesn't really help, but they make the software.. and the rules by which they work together.

It seems that the problem was not with Final Cut Pro and MPEG-2, but with the way I demuxed the VOB files. I tried simply opening the VOBs in Quicktime Pro, saving them as stand-alone Quicktime files, and then using those in Final Cut Pro, and they worked like a charm.

Just thought I'd let people know that I'd resolved this, in case anyone want to do some editing of DVD material!
