It"s a very reliable camera and I prefer it to the XL 1. Make sure to buy the Wide Angle with it. I couldn't live without one anymore. You could also look for a PD150 from Sony. It's a little more expensive, but it can record on DVCAM tapes (Better quality) and it has XLR audio imputs.

As far as holding up, my high school had one, and its stood up very well! Great camera, and I agree on the wide angle.
