Am I crazy, or shouldn't there be some sort of support for Soundblaster Live at this point for OSX, the most amazing operating system in the world?? I would think that there would be some generic drivers created that would at least let a sound input function (I'm not even going to rant about the fact I had to go get a seperate sound card - that's another topic!). I have been extremely impressed with OS X, and switched over 4 years ago from Windoze, but I'm confused at how Apple can overlook the most obvious details like this. I thought this was suppossed to be an amazing "multi-media" machine that people use to produce great stuff. This topic is obviously wide-open for comments and answers. I would love to hear what others are using and what new hardware/software I have to get to make great [or even "not-so-great"] audio on my Mac G4/933 under OS X.

you are ticked at Apple because Creative's SoundBlaster isn't supported in OS X?
I've been searching Apple's site and I don't see anything about Apple buying out Creative.

if you have a mic input on your computer, you can use that. Buy an RCA to 1/8 plug adapter. adjust the input levels in the sound preference panel.
If you don't have one, check out griffin technology's imic. It uses a USB to input sound. there's also a lot of shareware to edit your music. cacophony and Amadeus II are examples. If you can get a hold of soundedit16 from Macromedia (they no longer make/sell it), it works fine in classic.

I returned the disappointing Soundblaster (should have read up on the product reviews before I got it!). and got the $35 iMic. You would not believe how incredibly easy it was to install - just plugged it in the USB port and the system immediately recognized it.
At first, I thought Apple was at fault - somehow responsible for not supporting the hardware-, but I have learned the company selling the hardware is responsible, and Creative Labs could care less about supporting thier own product - how lame!
The other greater lesson I learned, is that Apple's "Core Audio" technology is so ahead of it's time, it doesn't even need drivers - way to go Apple!! It's a great way to cut-off companies that want to lag behind with archaic technology. (being almost 2003 and all!)
Apple still has this product on thier website, but after reading this review (and trying the PCI card), I'm wondering why:

The only problem I have with the iMic is that I can't get audio playthrough (to monitor a recording) but that seems to be more of a problem with OS X than anything else.
