I will appreciate your help on writing and composing music on mac. I am basically an amateur, i would say, absolute amateur in that. I have Casio 630 keyboard with MIDI out, acoustic guitar, and a mic for Mac. I would consider any hardware and software (except Logic - not for me) you can recommend me to use for writing, recording, mixing music on mac. Thanks beforehand!

BTW, my mac is BW G3 updated to G4 650, 640 mb of RAM, with mic input.

protools free is a great place to start...and it's free.
cubase, performer...
reason, great for music making (but not for audio...)

& what's wrong with logic anyway??

good luck

Its just that Logic is for pros..and I am not a pro I guess Reason suits my interests? There is also EZ mixer out there. I found that Peak is not for me..thats not what i am looking for

I am going to compose simple music on casio, input it as midi file into mac and then process it.. addind drums, guitars and other stuff

Try out PT free, the midi is not too great but it's free.

Otherwise look at DP or Logic. Reason is great, but it's all synth stuff, it won't let you record.

I tried ProTools, but results were not good, to say at least..The problem turned to be more difficult than i thought.. I can connect both casio keyboard and mac through USB-MIDI cable, make them both see each other using OMS 3.2.8. Problems begin when I cant make live input of MIDI into mac. maybe i am doing something wrong? Also, i cant get sound output from mac, which would include MIDI i play on keyboard
