Playing Movies over a Network

I have a bunch of video, about 15 GB, on my server. For the most part it plays fine over the network, but there are alot of small quick skips in video and audio. 100base is more than fast enough to watch most video formats, so it seems to me all I need is a small buffer to smooth out the bumps. Is there a way to do this?
