Harder than it sounds, it seems...
I wanted to get some clips from a very long mp3 of a movie I have. So I used QT6 to select the clips, copy them out into a new window, and save self-contained. These files play fine in iTunes and QT, but they are not real mp3 files, they are movies with mp3 sound tracks. As a result, they won't transfer to my iPod. So does anyone know a way of getting rid of whatever cruft QT is putting on this mp3 to call it a movie and leave it as a raw mp3? Much thanks...

the easiest way is to let iTunes re encode them to mp3, or use one of the LAME-itunes plugins. I agree that it would be better and pure-er to extract the mp3 somehow, but I don't know how. perhaps a movie editing program like Premiere or FCP would be capable...

Are you using the Pro version of QT6? And are you using the "Export" command, or the "Save As" command?
Because when you use the "Export" command (and this is in QT5 Pro), you have the option to Export: Sound to Wave, and you can specify your settings. You can then convert the .wav to an .mp3 in iTunes.

Right, but it's already an mp3, and I don't want to re-encode it. I just want to make the existing mp3 "movie" into a regular mp3...

it looks like there's a windows program called GraphEdit that might be able to do this. For a Mac solution, you'll probably have to do some programming. My guess is that the MediaPipe framework would be the best way to go...
