My girlfriends iMac has a DVD player in it. I would love to be able to access it from my home 100BT network. I have tried mounting the disk via connecting to her machine, but when I launch DVD player on my G4 it fails and tells me that I do not have a DVD drive installed (which I don't of course).

Is there any way around this?

Can I fool DVD player into thinking that I have a DVD drive installed?

I beleive that Apple's DVD player requires you have a DVD -ROM. On top of that, it has to be internal, and the master on the chain. I don't think you can fool the program. You could rip the dvd to hard-disk and play thru DVD player.

There is a product called VideoLan player? but I'm not sure if it can play DVDs over a network. In fact, I don't think that 100T is fast enough. But I'm not sure.

I don't know anything about that product, but DVD players only handle about 9.8 Mb/sec so a 100 Mb/sec link would be plenty.
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.
