I recently installed a Pioner dvr-104 and bought iDVD 2.1. So far, I sucessfully created DVD (video and data) using Apple branded DVD and Princo DVD. But last sunday, I had to output a DVD for a presentation and I had no more disks.
So I only found one store with blank DVD. They were made by HP, I tought it's a knowned brand name it should work so I bought 2 DVD-r and 2 DVD-rw.
iDVD didn't recognized the disks and neither did Toast.
Even if the package says those disks can be recorded by HP and other leading DVD-r drives, it doesn't seem to work. Maybe it's a Mac issue, anyway I'll give it a try once I'll have upgraded the drive firmwire otherwise it's a waste of good money.

umm...you should have looked at that packaging more carefully. HP doesn't make DVD-R/RW media, or DVD-R/RW drives. they make DVD+R/RW media and drives. it's well known that DVD+R media is different than DVD-R media. check out this page for a product description. it specifically says "The HP 2.4x speed DVD+R media is designed to give you the best results with your DVD+R drive." [the superdrive is DVD-R drive] and "DVD+RW format is backed by the most well known companies in the home entertainment and PC industries: Mitsubishi, HP, Ricoh, Sony, Phillips" [no mention of pioneer, the maker of the superdrive aka pioneer DVR-A03 or 04].

firmware updates won't help you, as +R and -R are totally different media.

don't mean to sound harsh, and i know the formats are confusing, but you really should have read the packaging before purchasing...

I read the package but I was not aware of the difference between a DVD-R and a DVD+R and neither was the salesmean. I simply thought it was a typographical choice. I should have known better than to trust a PC salesman.
