I have a client that wants some of their video content transmorgified to Mpeg-2 at 720x480, with audio included in the same file. Getting the video into mpeg2 is no problem, and we can put the audio out as whatever we need too.

My confusion comes in muxing them into one file, not part of a DVD, that can be opened in the video player of choice. I know QuickTime isn't properly playing MPEG-2 video, but if this 1 file opened in VLC and played the audio track synched with it, my goal would be accomplished.

Can someone please offer/point me to some advice on making an mpeg-2 file with audio enclosed? Am I striving for a type of Stream that the DVDSP manual references?

doesn´t the MissingMpegTools (versiontracker) do exactly what you´re looking for?

it offers the point "mplex" which does - as far as i know - multiplex a mpeg/mpv, m2v etc videostream with your source of audio mpa, mp2 etc....-

YEEESSSSSS!

That's exactly what I need.

In case it helps someone else later, I took my original video, exported from Quicktime to MPEG-2, getting .m2v and .aif files. Use the Missing Tools to change the .aif to mpeg-2 audio, then MT to mux the .m2v and audio together.

Open the results in VLC or QT with the MPEG2 playback component (I assume, don't have it) to verify.

Thanks for the help.

makes me happy to help a veteran ;-))

over here in germany there´s an excellent, weekly updated website http://mac.mercy.bei.t-online.de/svcd/svcd.htm , describing how-to rip dvds, aka s-vcds.

sorry to say: it´s in german, funny written so bablfish won´t help you. BUT: in the first third of this artivle you´ll find a list PLUS links of programs dedicated to rip.mix.burn dvds stufff like this.

and these prgs are of course in english!

one thing is missing in the listing which is and i do like, giving it *****, it´s called vdc builder, which gives you the ability to produce (s)vcds with MENU! and it has a very intuitiv GUI!

next stop. oktoberfest!
