I recently upgraded to QT 6 Pro, and the first thing I decided to do was combine a few of the mp3 files I had that, while technically separate songs, are meant to be played together. (Example: the last two tracks of Dark Side of the Moon).

I did this by importing both files into separate players. Then I copied all of the second file and, using the "add" command, tacked it on to the end of the first file.

The new file plays in iTunes just fine, sounds just fine. But iTunes says the bit rate is "Unknown" even though both files were ripped at 256 KB, and it still lists the time as the time of the original track. When it reaches the end, the playhead stops moving, but the track keeps playing to completion.

Even more important, when I try to put this song on my iPod, iTunes informs me the track cannot play on my iPod. Does anyone know a way to fix the file, or is there another way to combine the two files that will render it usable by my iPod?

Try pasting the file instead of adding. Adding creates another sound track which may be part of the problem.

However, the file is saved as a QuickTime Movie and I believe that's what's causing the iPod grief. So get a utility like FileInfo (on VersionTracker and free) to change the file type to MPG3 and the creator to "hook" (iTunes).
Once it's in iTunes you may need to update the tag info.

At any rate, I've got the file you're trying to create on my iPod and it plays fine.

Good luck!

there's a simple script called "itunes associator" to do just that, find it at versiontracker.com.
