A friend of mine just got a new PowerMac with a 17" Apple flat screen monitor. Kick ass machine. She also has a Sony NTSC client monitor she wants to use to view the stuff she edits in AVID XPress DV and FCP (not using it as a second monitor for the OS).

Next to where the Apple monitor is plugged in there is, what seems to be, another port for a second monitor. What sort of adapter is needed to connect the NTSC monitor to the PowerMac? Where could I get an adapter? Are there certain settings in FCP or AVID XPress DV that need to be adjusted so she can view her work in the client monitor?

Thanks for any help.

If your editing DV in FCP (not sure about Avid) and your using a deck or video camera, the feed is sent back out over the firewire cable to said deck or camera, and you hook up your NTSC monitor to the deck or camera. Most of the new Macs come w/ VGA and ADC connector, although I think some that had a certain ATI Video card had S-Video. I'm pretty sure these are only for extending your desktop, not just the editing view.
