A friend of mine is a musician and wants to get a computer to do mixing/sequencing/etc... Since he knows nothing of computers, he asked me to help him buy/build a computer system. He has a lot of professional audio equipment. Mixers, keyboards, etc.

What kind of system would be best for this, and what midi (I assume midi is the standard that most equipment use to communitate) interfaces are available for Mac?

I want to steer him towards the Mac, although he is on a budget and wants to get a system for as little as possible. I know I could build a PC system for about $800 complete, and I can probably convince him to go a little higher if need be, but I just need some suggestions as to what would be necessary for a basic setup.

Any links would be appreciated as well as I am totally unfamilliar with pro audio on the Mac or PC.

Thanks,
--Laurence

If he want's to get pro... tell him to get a tower G4... it's has more expansion options...
If he just want's to do MIDI stuff... anything that has USB (firewire is a must... a lot of firewire interfaces coming out... ) and a good 7200K harddrive will do... an iMac for example... Tell him to get Logic Audio 5 or Digital Performer 3.1...
Hummm... maybe if you give us more info on what he needs...
Think Diferente!
