I am trying to import video from the camera (Sony DCR-TRV330), which I've done many times - at least with iMovie 1 under OS 9. I'm now switching over to OS X (10.1.5) and iMovie 2. I can import the video just fine and I've done it successfully before in OS X. When I play the tape through iMovie the sound plays - even while it's importing. But when I go to select and play a clip, there is no sound.
The computer's sound setting is at mid range and so is the setting in the bottom right of the viewing area. I've tried moving the clips from the shelf to the movie story line and it doesn't help. All of the sound tracks are checked on in the storyline -- fade in or fade out are not checked.
I even tried adding an audio effect. If I sample the effect by clicking on them the computer starts meowing, barking, whinnying, appauding and chirping just as you'd expect. BUT, when I move a sound effect to the story line, it doesn't play and again, all the sound tracks are checked on.
As recently as two weeks ago I exported a project without any problems. With this project, I had imported the video under OS 9, but edited it under OS X. The sound was perfect whether in iMovie or when I exported it back to the camera.
What am I missing?
